Hainsey is like 80 years old and you are giving him $2M, but you are giving away Jarry and a 3rd to move out Gudbranson?

Hainsey is fine as a 3rd pairing guy. Guddy is heavily overpaid.

Maatta deal is fair. He’s worth maybe a 3rd or late 2nd round pick. Adding Hutton helps manage the cap better.

Hainsey ages like wine apparently. More importantly what do you think jarry’s value is? He ,IMO, is very unproven. (not certain) I recall his ahl numbers rival Murray’s. I’d say maybe a 3rd but idk. Also why does everyone wanna trade Maatta his value isn’t great and he’s better than JJ?

I assume you’re kidding? Byron had 31 points in 56 games. Maatta value is maybe a high 2nd or early 3rd. Why would the habs trade a solid middle six winger for an underachieving bottom 4 dman? They could get a slightly better ufa and keep Byron?

Obviously it was a joke. Are you stalking me on other threads now? Am I going to have to get restraining order out against you?

If Hainsey is fine, you can have him on your team. Penguins don't need anymore slugs with cement hands on defense.

Which FA d man (that you could realistically afford) would you want instead?

Haha I don’t actually pay attention to whom I’m fighting with. I don’t carry over any hostility from previous posts Look out your window? Jk but idk why Maatta needs to go. I would keep him. He’s still pretty young.

Depends on the cap space available and if they moved any current ones. Would I be using your AGM as a base?

Over Johnson and Gubranson, I would keep Maatta too but the knock against him is his speed and decision making under pressure and the cap hit as well. The cap hit wouldn't be so bad if Rutherford actually knew how to properly control the teams finances,

Haha i love when the narrative is that a defenseman is slow. Trading Maatta and not JJ saves the penguins what 700k and its a massive downgrade. Maatta wasn’t too slow during those cup runs and it’s not like he’s 30.

He is slow. I'm not talking just foot speed. I'm saying everything. He's slow moving the puck, slow shooting the puck, slow in the brain. He isn't the most gifted skater either by any means. It is a massive downgrade for sure but Johnson can be used as bait for the expansion draft and Maatta has more value and can at least bring back something in a trade.

See I think keeping Maatta would be more attractive and would cost less at the expansion draft. I imagine you’ll have to pay a team to take JJ. a team might just take Maatta as their pick nothing else added. Either way JJ WAS A BAD DECISION ha. Petersson or whatever ....what a diamond in the rough. He’s secretly one of the better defenseman on the team. That was a great trade.

If you paid ZAR, Pettersson and Carpenter appropriately at 1mil, 2mil and under 1mil each then subtracted Hainsey's 2mil and put them 3 scratches in the AHL, you would have roughly 5.5mil to spend. A guy like Stralman would be a much better fit but could be a bit pricey but maybe not at his stage of his career. Whoever you put with Johnson is going to suffer regardless. Johnson and Hainsey together would be a dumpster fire and the puck would be in the defensive zone the entire time they were on the ice. There would be no clean breakouts, only off the glass and out. I couldn't imagine any forward wanting to be on the ice with them two at the same time.

Fleury took a 2nd for Vegas to take him. I would assume Johnson would cost the same based on his salary is lower but he's a worse player. Maatta if paired with another player could bring back a decent return. Penguins wouldn't just let Maatta go for nothing. Especially if they have both him and Johnson on the team at the same when the expansion draft happens.
