If Benning were a little smarter...

Created by: alwaysnextyear
Team: 2016-17 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 8, 2016
Published: Jun. 10, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
He could take advantage of the dummies in Colorado. Apparently the Avs don't want to pay big bucks to Barrie because (like Benning) they want a more physical Dman for their top 4. Well they can take Gudbranson and swap 1st rounders with Van. The Canucks get the better young RHD and still get to select a very good player at 10th overall.

    Still over the CAP unfortunately so something has to give. Also in expansion draft you'd have to go the 4 d 4 fwd protect route (Edler, Tanev, Hamuis, Barrie) (Sedin, Sedin, Horvat, Sutter)?

    Oops, didn't notice I went over the cap there. As far as expansion, the Canucks are in a really good spot if they can convince Hamhuis to re-sign for 1 year at a time (like I have here). That way he won't take up a protected spot. Still not sure if Tryamkin will need protection because of his pro experience in the KHL. I guess we'll see this year if he's even worth protecting.

    My protected list as the real team stands now;

    Sedins, Hansen, Horvat, Baertschi, Rodin, Etem
    Edler, Tanev, Gudbranson
    Markstrom (he'll be re-signed by then)

    If Vegas wants to take one of Sutter, Dorsett or Sbisa they can have at it.

    Why trade for Barrie's rights, when you can put in an offer sheet for him since he's an RFA? Sign him for less than 5.5 million per on a long term deal and he would only cost the canucks a 1st and a 3rd

    The Avs match anything under 6 million.
