Number 1 Centerman

Created by: LeafsFan
Team: 2016-17 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 10, 2016
Published: Jun. 10, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I definitely was thinking that Bjugstad could be moved but I liked him in Columbus from the AGM fro Jacketsman61's post: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/121221

FLORIDA:

Florida already has Barkov and Trocheck as their 1/2 punch, Bjugstad has value and is too good for a third line role. Florida gets a replacement for Campbell, who will deliver offense and smooth skating while on a good short term contract as well get a 30 goal scorer (something they need as their highest pts player was Jagr) on a really good contract.

BOSTON:

Seemingly Hayes seems to be on his way out of Boston and Boston uses him and their cap space to upgrade their top six for the fan favourite Hartnell.

EDMONTON:
They get a Chiarelli favourite while COL gets a more offensive minded 4th line center.

Thank you. I like your variation. However, I just wonder about the bruins trade. They are looking for defense. And not sure if they would want to trade Hayes. I also noticed you didn't have Bjorkstrand in your line up. Any reason?

I like the thought process above. CBJ still needs to correct their huge blunder & get Clarkson contract off ASAP (pref trade or LTIR, but buyout for little/no cap space if absolutely necessary). Also good point about needing to bring a couple high achievers from Lake Erie (Anderson & BJorkstrand in particular). Maybe offer Boll a front-office job with the club (incentive to retire) rather than a buyout? Goaltending is a big question mark with Bob's health and McIlhinney's ineffectiveness. Korpi or Forsberg will be up quickly if G is shoddy to start the season. The defence is still a bit suspect, and would like to see a play for T Barrie or another top 2 back-liner. By following this play, it also addresses the elephant in the room looming next year (expansion draft) as to who to protect.

We totally want to trade Hayes, drop Hartnell from the trade and its fair. We don't want a negative value like him. Theres a reason you got him for a guy who was basically useless. Your gonna have to buy him out or ship him to a team needing more cap hit.

I am surprised of the value you have placed on Hartnell is so low. Since coming from Philly, he has had 28 32 60 +1 and 23 26 49 -11 on primarily 3rd line duty with freshmen & sophmores. Beyond his stat line, he is bringing so much more from an experience standpoint than any other "seasoned" veteran we have brought in from year's past. Granted, Boston doesn't need a mentor for a more seasoned team, but Hartsy has really transitioned his game from agitator to a dependable presence over the last few years. His salary is a bit high for 3rd line status, but CBJ is notorious for overpaying players for their contributions or line position. Maybe retaining $1-$2 or throwing in a mid-pick would sweeten any deal that is made to relieve his salary.

I find that on CapFriendly old players with higher contracts are really bashed upon (see Hartnell, Wideman, Orpik) I think Hartnell would be a great top six forward for boston, not that hes an iggy but Jarome scored 30 older than him and they have a similar style of play and I also wasn't sure of how ready the CBJ prospects were (not much knowledge about them) so I decided to leave them out but you could fit some in there

Bgustad is not a top line C tho. Look for RNH or Brassard in that case.
