haha you think Avs would retain even the slightly salary plus a draft pick to let you off the hook for the full wideman deal.

Why not dum dum? Wideman has one more year, Iggy has one more year, same salaries. Avs have Rantanen to take Iggy's spot, and will probably move Barrie for a high draft pick or prospects, Wideman can fill Barries spot for one year, and takes Iggys cap hit. I think it's a trade that makes sense for both teams, and the Flames are just as attractive to Iggy now as Colorado for one more year, why not give it one more year in Calgary?

Man people have short memories... Wideman had just as many points as Iginla had just last year.Did he just decide to become a bum in the span of 1 year? Sure he a bad season this year but Wideman is only 33 while Iginla is going to be 39 in a couple days. I put my money on Wideman having a bounce back season over Iginla ever reaching 30 again.

At the end of the day I'd keep Iginla too but its not a garbage proposal to be honest, I'd remove the salary retained and the draft pic and make it straight up player for player. If Iginla was playing for Edmonton instead of Colorado, I'd make that trade. Even if EDM-CGY trades are rare.

Wideman is not a true Top 4 dman, and the Avs have a stock pile of guys who are 3rd pairing guys (Holden, Gelinas, Beauchemin). Wideman is 5m in wasted cap space, at least iggy is useful on the PP and in a bottom 6 role. Also Wideman blocks a roster spot for Zadorov and or Bigras.

Also Iggy isnt waiving his NTC to miss the playoffs or have a slight to zero chance of winning the cup. He said he wont waive his NTC since he likes living in Denver and raising his kids there. Only way he waives his NTC is at the deadline to a cup team as a rental. Other than that, hes on the Avs
So yes it is a terrible dumb trade for the Avs

Well that's where we disagree. Wideman is a 4th dman on their roster, and a very useful 2nd line PP man. He's better than Zadorov for one more year, Zadorov needs more time to develop. Anyways, not a dumb trade for the AVS, considering that (IMO) Wideman will help their team more next year than Iggy will. And vice versa for Calgary. It's all speculative anyways.

Obviously with these things, we have to take the other variables out of it. We're pretending he waives his not trade. Its just a scenario. CGY may be an option he'd consider given his history.

"Wideman is not a true Top 4 dman, and the Avs have a stock pile of guys who are 3rd pairing guys (Holden, Gelinas, Beauchemin). Wideman is 5m in wasted cap space, at least iggy is useful on the PP and in a bottom 6 role. "

What data suggests Wideman isn't at the very least a top 4 dman? Last time i checked, none of his stats (minus the off year he had this year in point totals) would merit him being anything less than a top 4.... Go actually look at his numbers in all areas of the game.

I'm not debating with you whether or not i would do it. If i am Colorado, i wouldn't simply because Iginla is Iginla and i wouldn't just trade guys like that for the sake of trading him but where i find it surprising is the language you use towards him and this trade in general. The guy is not as bad as you make him out to be and if CGY had oodles of cap space, they'd wouldn't be so eager to trade him away for just anything either. RH dmen who can play PP and PK, 20-22 mins a night do not grow on trees. I did a rough estimate, equal or better to Wideman's stats, roughly 30. Take the last 4 years into consideration and he's actually got better overall numbers than anyone on Colorado's roster not named Barrie. Once again not talking about player value, just statistics.

I wouldn't mind seeing Jarome Iginla go oldschool in a Flames jersey.

for all those who are saying that Wideman is still a good Top 4 Dman. Look it up, he has some very mediocre to poor Possession stats 5v5 against some of the weakest quality of competition out there. So summary, he gets destroyed in his own end and is subjected to offensive zone starts since he is so poor in his own end. He isn't a top 4 dman, just bc he played on the 2nd pair with the Flames doesnt make it him a top 4 dman, as I said, he is not a true top 4 dman.. Its like saying Matt Hunwick is a Top pairing dman bc he played on the top pair in Toronto.

Poor possession numbers, bad defensively, terrible contract, and the fact he is a lightning rod with how idiotic he was with that whole hitting the ref debacle. He has very value.

I would agree that Wideman is a stretch to play in the top 4... unless 1 of your top 4 is injured then he has proven he can step it up... as for his PP usage... eliminate last year (really off year) and he is a lock - yes LOCK on more than half the teams in the NHL for #1 PP minutes and that last minute 6 on 5 going for the tie!!! Teams need a 3rd pair guy that can SCORE and step up when needed... This is Wideman's wheel house and his Points show why he gets 5+ mil per year! So Why doesn't Calgary need him... Well we have 3 top 2 PP guys will at least 1 more on his way up in 1-2 years and Wides is a UFA at the end of this year and we need the cap space to resign our RFA's...
