Getting Younger

Created by: LetsTalkNHL
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: May 14, 2019
Published: May 14, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Penguins are serious about moving Malkin and Kessel, these seem like good returns. I think moving Schultz for a younger defenseman makes sense. Risto has been linked with a move away for some while now and I dont really know why, but I'd take him.

No way Florida does that trade. They would much rather give up salary than Borgestrom. I’ve been saying probably would do Huberdeau, Trochek, and a 1st for Malkin and maybe Jarry or Simon. Jarry makes sense so they can get rid of both Reimer and Luo. Simon makes sense cause he’d be a cheap bottom 6 winger to fill out the line up if they bring in Panarin and Bob.

No way the pens do the buffalo trade. Schultz > Risto. Buffalo would need to add imo. Plus I believe Buffalo would like to get out of the Risto contract. I wouldn’t mind pens getting Risto for Schultz, but buff should also add a mid to late pick too imo.

The other 2 trades seem pretty solid. I think Maatta is better than Lehkonen but given the fact we could get like 3 mil in cap space, I’d still do it.

I think the pieces coming back are still good enough for them to remain competitive. With the cap space, they can sign a younger UFA if need be! Don't think its a rebuild. Trocheck is a solid 2C. Hinostroza and Lehkonen are solid wingers with potential to grow. Risto is proven top 4. Borgstrom, Merkley and the 2 firsts are the real prospects in these deals.

Huberdeau, Trocheck AND a 1st would never happen. If it did, Florida management is stupid. Malkin is elite, but thats way too much. I see it being a solid roster player, a prospect and a first. They will be able to shed cap else where, either with Lu potentially going on LTIR or Reimer trade/buyout. You can move out Hoffman for some good value if need be. Malkin can convince Panarin, Bob or Varlamov to sign with the Panthers.
The reason I added is because Schultz is UFA after this year, so he may just leave for nothing. Adding Simon gives them a little extra something.

I like these deals for the most part. Not a big fan of the Buffalo trade but could live with it. I wouldn't do both the Malkin and Kessel trade. I'd rather trade Kessel and keep Malkin. That being said though, if they trade Malkin, then might as well trade Kessel too.

Panthers aren’t going to make that trade and don’t need Malkin to convince Panarin and Bob to sign. Dadonov is Panarin’s best friend and he’s already talked to him about coming down here. He also said he’s worked hard to get to this position and deserves to make his own mind up.

I think it just allows us to get a little bit younger. I agree with your Malkin/Kessel POV. If Malkin is traded first, Kessel should also be dealt. If Kessel moves first, I am entirely okay with keeping Malkin. Elite centre who is still capable of so much. I do think some type of change is necessary.

I think a Panarin-Malkin-Dadonov line would be insane. Malkin is an amazing centre who was over point a game and was considered to have a bad season. He is a great acquisition for any team.

Congrats, you took GMJR mess and absolutely destroyed the team. Malkin and Hornqvist are not going anywhere.

Definitely would be nice but not at the Pens price, only if the Cats pay their price which won’t include any top prospects or Huberdeau. Imagine The following top 9
Huberdeau-Barkov-Hoffman
Panarin-Malkin-Dadonov
Vatrano-Borgstrom-Tippett

Looks good. I do think they need to send a prospect to the Pens. I feel like Heponiemi is an option but he's looking really good!

I doubt Malkin moves, but he's been in the rumour mill. I think this trade is still solid for the Pens.

It would be a lot more likely than them trading Trochek, borgestrom, and a 1st that’s for sure. If Florida were to get malkin, they’d need to clear long term cap to afford bringing in Panarin and Bob. Barkov is a non starter, Ekblad would destroy their defense. They’d wanna keep Dadanov, the pens wouldn’t want any other cap hits. And why would Luo go on LTIR? He’d 1.) have to be injured or retire, 2.) would destroy what Florida would want to do in getting Bob and Panarin cause LTIR players still count against the year end salary cap and they’d get penalized up to 5 million against next years cap and so on until Luo officially came off the books.
Schultz is still better, there is no reason to add. You don’t add to take on a big contract in return that the other team doesn’t even want lol. The something extra is that buffalo gets a better defense while the pens get worse. Why would the pens want to do that...especially if they have to then add on to it? Lol

In terms of cap space, sure Huberdeau allows them to save more, but value wise they are losing out. By buying out Reimer, they can still make it work. As for the Sabres trade, a 1 for 1 is fine. Simon does not have to be part of it. It's more the idea of getting younger.

I doubt they buyout reimer. They probably just trade him. Same with Luo. Even if it means taking on a lower pick for a higher pick with Luo. Panarin and Bob > Huberdeau, Reimer, and Luongo. By a long shot. So it could be worth it for Florida if Panarin and Bob are guaranteed signing. And this is Huberdeaus best season and only ppg+ season. Malkin at his worst has been a ppg+ player. And honestly, getting to play with Panarin, Dadanov, and Bob might rejuvenate malkin too tbh.

they aren't trading Malkin. I don't know why people even waste their time.
