makes sense

Coach Q would no doubt love Shaw there on Borgstrom's wing helping mentor the youth like he did in CHI.
MTL gets UFA rights to a player they'll still have to win come summer in a bidding war and this is more or less a show of faith like when MTL traded two 2nd rounders for Shaw's UFA rights .

Shaw's a good fit but MTL likely needs to retain 500-750k to make it work.

IMO opinion Hoffman walk out the next summer. So one year of Hoffman for Shaw Olofsson :/ at least the year after Suzuki will take is spot, Ylonen will land in North America too so we never know.

Panthers pass simply because they can get more for Hoffman elsewhere, they don’t need $3.9 million on a 3rd line player. @Poehling I’m sure you know the Panthers off season plans, this might be a last resort option for them but definitely not a priority. Goaltending and a top shutdown defenseman are what they truly need.

1 year of Hoffman will not get you a top 4 shutdown Dman. If I retained on Shaw, he's a good veteran with grit. Florida have a better line-up than MTL, but Mtl have player like Shaw that makes the difference why we are better.

yeah i thought it was for UFA rights not for term .

Hoffman with 1 year left could get a package similar to Pacioretty's atleast .
Shaw , Primeau (or Brook) ,and a 2nd round pick (or late 1st in 2021)

I never said Hoffman gets the shutdown D, I said that’s a priority not adding a guy like Shaw. Also goaltending and defensive lapses were why the Habs better. Don’t get me wrong having that grit is always a plus. Cats were 9th in the league in scoring need to focus on the D and goaltending.

Pacioretty got us that return because they had negotiated an extension prior. No way I give up that much to take a risk on 1 year of Hoffman

career high 36 goals easily gets the package i offered
even though i compared it to the Pacioretty trade anyone who knows the prospects involved in both trades realizes Every piece in the Pacioretty Trade is elite compared to what i offered in Shaw , Primeau and a 2nd or Brook and a 1st.

Hoffman isnt going to yield what Patches did quality wise but that doesnt mean he wont yield a similar return but instead of getting A players they get B , instead of A+ prospect they get B+ or A- .

Tatar >Shaw
Suzuki>Primeau or Brook
the only piece that would be worth more is the 1st if they took Brook
(which in this scenario with this roster i'd figure would be a late 1st )

Shaw > Tatar nobody wants Tatar when McPhee tried to trade him. The original trade was Suzuki vs Pacioretty, McPhee said you gotta take Tatar to make it done. Marc says ok but you send a 2nd round pick & retained 500K. They agreed. Shaw have value, Tatar was a cap dump when Pacioretty got traded.
