You get much better long term by having cap, signing UFA Trouba and keep the 1st rounder and Lindstrom. Wings are likely to miss the playoffs next season anyway, so what's the point of getting Trouba a year early.

I dont understand why people are assuming he hits UFA...not that this trade would be anything close to what it would take to get him, but I do think the Wings need to be aggressive and not just assume he hits UFA next year.

Trouba has declined long term offers from the Jets before, Trouba seems intent to be a UFA. But what is this fascination about the Jets trading an upcoming UFA, and non contending teams wanting Trouba. There are about 130 RFAs with one year left on their contract...soon to be UFAs. They certainly all don't get signed, but somehow Trouba seems to be a unique.

I have to assume he isn't holding out on signing a deal because he wants to be in Detroit just he doesn't want to be in Winnipeg. I look at him as jjust a young dman who is good and could be available for maybe under market value. if Winnipeg moves him to san jose or florida or long island who says he doesn't sign.

True, any team that owns his rights can sign him. But there are lots of teams where he may not want to play for or teams that don't have the cap for him. Still there seems to be this obsession that Trouba (and only Trouba) HAS to be traded . Betcha there are 120 players going into their last season before becoming UFAs. They all don't get traded. It has been pretty well documented that Detroit and Florida are the front runners for his services as a UFA.

This trade is a slight overpay, and WPG would jump all over it. He will most likely command an early 2nd and a B prospect.

That's outrageous. Where is the overpay? His value may be slightly decreased due to his pending UFA status, but a B prospect and 2nd rounder for a 25 year old, RH top pairing Dman? Ummmmm, no.
