I just can't see the Oilers trading a top 10 pick.and that what the Oilers are next season, for Kapanen. If Bear truly is an NHL RHD, he's worth more than Brown.
Well the pick is lottery protected top 5. So let’s say the have a disaster season they can never be trading the top pick. Instead and more liklely let’s say the oil do miss the playoffs but are better then they ere this year. The pick would be what, about 12 - 18th
Do you not think kapanen is worth that? Everywhere I look people are saying he will be offer sheeted. If he is sheeted it will likely be at an amount that means compensation is a first. Who do you think the oil are going to get for bear. I say bear is comparable right now what Dermott was two years ago, a late rounder that looks like he will be a full time nhler. He might be Jake Muzzin in 5 years but they don’t have that much time to wait. Just like Toronto May be trading a guy who could be a top 6 forward for 10 years in Kapanen. Plus they have Bouchard who looks like he will be the top RHD if the future, Larsson top guy now, Russell and Benning.
Just like Toronto has to trade from RW strength to fill RHD the oil need to trade from there strength to fill the need of nhl ready wing to play top 6 or top 9 role right now. Wasting 2 or three years waiting for future draft picks to fill that spot is the wrong move with Connor and Leon in their primes now.
What they don’t have is anyone the quality of kapanen or brown in the system and this years pick will likely be 2 years from playing and perhaps then only be what kapanen is now. Both of whom have put up 20+ goal seasons before there 22nd birthdays. Brown hs proven chemistry with your top scorer and kapanen has proven he can play the game at a speed that might be perfect for McDavid.
A year from now this could look horrible for the leafs when Bear turns into a bottom pairing RHD and the pick is late first round because brown put up 20 goals and kapanen pots 25 or 30 and 65 points.
