Description
Defense got younger. Face offs got better with Kadri and Glendening. So did PK. Tougher team to play against. Pick up draft picks. Kadri for Eller, Maple Leafs save salary and dump distraction, Caps get a tougher Center that can play up and down line up who scores more. Dallas trade: Niskanen slides right in to mentor Heiskanen plus a talented wing with great speed and potential to be 30 goal scorer. Caps dump salary, get younger and gamble on prospects. Janmark not needed sent to NJ for picks. Detroit trade gets great face-off man and gritty penalty killer for a former 1st round D man and a prospect. Finally the Zaitsev trade. Caps gamble big Russian will flourish in DC with Russian friendly team outside glare of Toronto media. Leafs get cap relief and a young puck moving D with 2 years NHL experience. I Like this team for playoff hockey. It is tougher, better defensively, better on face-offs yet can score. Which trades are not realistic or fair to both sides?

As a Stars fan, I’ll say that the expectations for Gurianov are pretty high, but that proposal has some merit. It solves a couple of needs for Dallas. Pretty sure the Stars were in on Burakovsky prior to the deadline. Cool idea.

TOR can get more for Kadi.

DET says hell yes as that's a pure steal for them. Johansen has top 3 potential and you gave him away for an overpaid 4th liner. Brutal.

TOR also says hell yes and quickly let go of an overpaid bottom pairing dman and get a younger, cheaper 2nd pair player in return.

Combine them
Djoos and Eller 10% salary retention for Kadri and Zaitsev 15% retained and 5th.

Caps should consider. Kadri and Zaitsev need a new team. Djoos and Eller are vanilla, talented but not difference makers. I like that Kadri hates to lose and Z needs less spotlight and a Russian friendly environment. He has size, skates well, in his prime, worth the gamble.
