Description
Callahan agrees to waive his trade protection if DET agrees to buy him out so he can re-sign with TBL at a reduced cap hit. DET gets a decent prospect as a sweetener. If you can take on another expiring bad contract for quality futures, do it.

DET selects Zegras at 6 overall in the draft making Larkin/Zegras/Veleno the center depth of the future. With this roster we will surely get another high pick in the 2020 draft to may land another top end forward.

Zadina, Mantha, Bertuzzi, Athanasiou make up the winger core with Berggren and Rasmussen as a potential top 6 wingers in the making (we'll see how Berggren does coming back from his back injury and how Rasmussen adjusts to the AHL/NHL game pace). If Svechnikov takes a step forward next year after his ACL injury, he could also be in the mix.

Hronek, Cholowski, McIssac, Lindström make up the defensive core of the future. While Hronek looks like potential top pair material, the group still lacks that elite prospect...perhaps this is where GM Stevie Y fills the holes with free agency...or maybe the 2020 1st rounder is spent on an elite defensive talent.

Larsson is the future in net with Eliasson and Petruzzelli as potential NHL talent (in that order).

I prefer Turcotte as well. I assume he will be gone by 6. As will byram (who I would also prefer over zegras). For this roster is assume Hughes, kakko, Turcotte, byram, and someone other than zegras are taken in the first 5.

The league would void the trade and the new contract.

Why didn’t they void the brooks orpik trade?

Can they trade Callahan back and forth, and when they trade him back, the Wings retain som salary? That way, we won't have him on the books for two years.

Why didn’t they void the brooks orpik trade?

There was no guidance in place to prevent the moves, but now there is.

The NHL issued a memo to teams because of the brooks orpik situation after that the move is not allowed going forward (Like how Sean Avery was allowed to turn and block the goalie but no player afterwards). They did investigate brooks orpik’s movement and determined the couldn’t prevent it because their was no established guidance... that’s not the case anymore. Don’t take my word for it search out the investigation’s outcome.
