Avs Double Dipping

Created by: coga16
Team: 2019-20 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: May 26, 2019
Published: May 26, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just a fun attempt at UFA if Avs wanted to flex their cap space and load up with 2 Top 6 Wingers in Skinner and Ferland

Trade with Ott is a way for Sens to get their own third rounder back and give the Avs a little cap space for future moves. Salary is only 600k difference b/w Soderberg and Pageau but they get the luxury of the bigger cap hit to hit the Floor. More Cap hit without spending much more in actual Money is right up the Sens alley

The drafting of Byram is the future proofing of moving on from Barrie as the cap room would be running out for him. Makar Byram Giard Timmins Zads EJ would be the D core for the next 4-5 years, and a pending barrie trade would be one later for future pieces of ELC level contracts based on these moves

With the situation of your future RD with Timmins and Makar why would you draft Byram? Wouldn't you draft Turcotte instead to help your forward core?

Byram is LHD and him and Makar would be a future Top Pairing of elite potential. Sure you can take Turcotte but I dont think he gets past the Hawks. Like I said the Byram pick is setting up the pending departure of barrie leaving bc you cant afford to pay him and a young D core of 2 LHD in Giard Byram and 2 RHD in Makar Timmins, its not a bad transition plan, then you have EJ Cole Zads and Melcohe to make up your bottom pairing with probably Zadorov being picked up at the expansion draft.

Sorry, my mistake with Byram. Yeah that's a very good young D core

Byram Turcotte is a coin flip, you can come on this site and see I don't see Chicago passing on Byram or I can see the Hawks passing on Turcotte post an hour later. Hawks have drafted a lot of Dmen with their high picks lately, 2018 Boqvist (8) Beaudin (28) 2017 Jokiharju (29) Ian Mitchell (57). 3 1st rounders and a 2nd rounder on Dmen in the past 2 drafts. Do they want to go high value D again? Really tough to say. Plus Turcotte has ties to the Blackhawk org, so I figured they would go with the local boy

Plus there's this possibility: the Avs value Newhook or Zegras or a similar center highly enough that when he's still on the table at #11 or #13 and that team is interested in Zadorov or Barrie and the #16 . . .

Thats been one common point made by some of the Avs podcasts that are talking about the draft. The separation of fwds in the top 10 arent as drastic as what Byram is to the rest of the D class. He is in a league of his own. Safe to say you would get the best value out of your picks at 4 & 16 with Byram and another forward than Turcotte and Dach and having to pick out of the Seiders etc that would be there for Dmen

Island lake is not Chicago. I would know, they're in my school district. Turcotte has spent more time the last few years in Michigan than the Chicagoland area, I wouldn't call playing midget hockey for the Chicago Mission ties to the Blackhawks. Weren't the leafs employing Vesey's dad hoping that would help? Not going to be upset at all if they take Turcotte. But of the 4 defenseman you listed the Hawks taking recently, only one is a left shot. Local kid shouldn't effect whether the Hawks draft him. Its best player. And he could be the best.

that is a gross contract for Kerfoot . If its a bridge deal for 2 years it will be closer to 2.5 million. I hope they trade him away. He was trash in the playoffs.

I don't see Kerfoot signing for less than 3 - 3.5. I don't see a 40pt guy getting less 3 in the league going forward. Yeah he didn't produce a lot in the playoffs and I don't mind trading his rights. He does need decent players around him to make much noise but if he was paired with Skinner, I could see him getting 45-50pts.

I would love Zads to sign for that, but I don't see him signing for less than 4. I've been touting him as high as 4.5. Maybe an overpay but I just think he's gonna be a stickler and max out as much as he can. Could likely get Greer and Kam on an $874,125 qualifying offer for one year too I think. Love the Skinner signing but my best bud (a Sabres fan) would be choked haha. Think they could get Ferland for 4.5 though. He is streaky. Maybe Kerfoot and he could balance each others' 20 game cold streaks haha.

Great roster! I could see 96 signing for only five years at that amount. Skinner is asking for $9M, but there's no way he'll get more than Stamkos. From what I read about Turcotte's dad, seems like he's got terrific guidance. Either him or Byram will be a tremendous boost. Jost needs to pick up his skating. Your roster leaves an option for a trade upgrade if necessary. Now, if we can just fix the PP
