If Santini is a competent NHL Dman, Jersey don't do the trade because they prefer the cap space.
If Zaitsev that much better than Santini that Jersey likes the trade, then the Leafs don't do the trade because it indicates Santini isn't NHL good enough.

Or Marleau can hold his ground and say NO. You can not put him in AHL(NMC), you can buy him out because there is no cost savings(NMC & +35yo contract) and you can sit him and pay him the money to sit in the press box until he likes where he wants to go. Face it he holds all the Aces and Toronto is holding a pair of 2's.
