Yeah because DAL has to pay a first with a constant 70-point winger in exchange to a under 40-point winger who's becoming UFA in a year.

Awful trade for Stars.

Yeah - I really don't understand how LA gets the better player and the Pick (and you are trying to make dallas better?)

You want to make the playoffs? Trade Seguin and or Benn.

That D is nasty. Seguin has all the skill in the world, but I am a firm believer he will never win (with him as center piece).

I know Seguin had a pretty decent playoff, but... Radulov had more goals than him and has a much better playoff track record.

Benn in his career 30pts in 32 games
Seguin 32pts in 62 games - Not good for a guy who over 9 NHL seasons is averaging just under a PPG.

If either is traded - just make sure the GM knows he is worth more than an average aging winger and some garbage.

That's an awful trade for both sides, if you're looking ONLY at last year.

Toffoli is a 25-30 goal scorer on a good team, and he was one of the few Kings where you could look at his point totals and say he didn't get what he deserved last year. He was consistently an offensive threat (one of the few in last year's terrible year), but suffered from a career low shooting percentage and some god-awful puck luck all year. Word is the Kings were looking for a 1st round pick from the Bruins in exchange for Toffoli at the deadline, so I'd imagine the price has dropped, but not by much. The Stars would be getting a very good player who will be playing for a contract on a bounce-back year.

From LA's point of view, Radulov is well over the average age they are trying to get the team down to (6 years older than Toffoli as well), costs 2million more than Toffoli, and would be required to be protected at the expansion draft. Of course a 1st would come in to play in this trade. Not only are the Kings losing Toffoli, they're losing the player they didn't get to protect instead of Radulov.

If I was Blake looking at the Stars, I'd say my offer would be Toffoli and the LAK 2019 3rd round pick for Nichushkin and Dallas's 2019/2020 1st round (whichever is left after Zucc signs or leaves). The Stars get the offensive depth to settle their second line, and what should be a good player in the early 3rd round, while the Kings get a little younger, project player who's also playing for a contract/to stay in the NHL after struggling last year, and the upside of a 1st round pick in 2020. What do you guys think?

I get your point, that trade the OP posted doesn't benefit anyone. It's bad for both of the teams. As a DAL fan I focused on the DAL point of view. But it doesn't really work for LA either.

As for that counteroffer you posted (Nuke+1st for Toffoli+3rd), I'd probably wait until the trade deadline to see if Toffoli can actually bounce back. It wouldn't do for DAL to lose their first round picks two years in a row for rental players, especially if they're not re-signing or simply worth the demanded price. With their last year statistics, I probably wouldn't be moving a first for Toffoli - and neither did Bruins, they got a better deal with Johansson... I'd probably look for better options. Toffoli is a good and established player, but moving a first from a team which prospect pool isn't too deep it might be too heavy cost, if he turns out again on an under 40-point season.

Nuke... What a great nickname haha. As far as waiting for the deadline, I'm expecting (and dreading) another below-average year from the Kings. It'll be interesting to see what Toffoli can do under Todd McLellan's system, but he'll most likely be playing on a second line centered by Adrian Kempe, with the other wing being Carl Grundstrom. While I love Kempe's style and hope he can develop into a 2C, he's definitely not there yet. He'll be outmatched more nights than not. Grundstrom is a rookie who played a grand total of ... 8-9 ish games last year? My point being is that I don't think Toffoli's numbers will correctly indicate his ability to help out a team with a much more legitimate 2nd line. With his numbers this year, and the amount of cap space it looks like the Stars have, I'd expect a contract around 5 mill would be what you could expect for Toffoli. Not a huge increase over what he's making now unless he absolutely kills it next year. He fits right into the age group of the Stars and what they're trying to do. I get the fear of losing a 1st round pick, but if the Stars are actually at the point of going for it, they're going to have to make that sacrifice of talent now instead of talent in the future. The Kings had to do the same to get their Cups.

I was thinking the same "wait till the deadline" for Nuke due to his absolutely horrendous season last year, but both players could use the change of scenery at the start of the season, which is why I said why not get it done now. Either way, DAL and LA could be dancing partners for a trade this coming year. Both teams have something the other covets.
