Life Goes On

Created by: TH13
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 30, 2019
Published: May 30, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Worst comes to worst Leafs match an Offer Sheet for Marner over 10m and trade Nylander for a good Dman.

Dubas won't trade Marner. Ownership wouldn't give him permission.
If need be trade Nylander and another young winger ( AJ of Kappi) get some defence and try your best next year.

people talking as if the season won't start in October because the Leafs can't get their team together. life goes on.

“Ownership won’t let him.” You say that like you know the inner workings of the ownership group.

Just a thought that MLSE wouldn't give their rookie GM a shot at trading a hometown kid who just happens to be a Top 10 winger in the league. Always a chance I'm wrong and the leafs let him walk to Buffalo as everyone on here seems to think is more probable.

Never say never I guess.

I would definitely prefer to keep Marner, but his stock is kind of high right now so he’d fetch the most in a trade. Nylander’s value isn’t as great so it’d be like buying high and selling low. Honestly, I’d settle for a crap season with even more atrocious defense than last year if it meant that the Leafs can keep all 4 core forwards. Then when Marleau’s and Muzzin’s contract come off the books, there’d be more flexibility to add a D man without compromising the core

I am not sure you can put Hyman and Dermott on LTIR if they are not injured long-term. You could try to bury them in the minors, which they would almost certainly not clear (i.e. TML would see them depart for nothing in return). If you factor in their salaries, they are way over the cap. I also assume Babcock would pitch a fit with having too many LHD and either having to start one of them on the right side OR starting Miller as your #1 on the right side. Finally, I could be wrong, but I feel as though Marner isn't signing for anything under $10 mil aav.

Every time I look at our salary cap numbers, I get a sense of dread...

I agree with what you're saying. If it gets to the point where someone offers a trade for Marner the Leafs would have screwed it up royally is all I'm saying. Dreger came out today and said he asked a member of the Leafs Brass about a possible Marner trade and he got a resounding "not a chance in hell".

Id take the crap year as well.
realistically the Leafs as they are now will make the playoffs but unless they start playing to what they are being paid they won't go far.

Leafs fleece Vegas in that trade. Brown, Woll and a 7th for a top 4 D. Not gonna happen. Leafs would be giving something bigger upfront to get a guy like miller. Or higher/multiple draft picks. It’s essentially a 3rd(value of brown), 7th, and a potential backup for a stable Top4 guy. But u never know It is Vegas after all.

With these roster moves the team continues its rebuild that started in 1967.

Miller was scratched and wasn't playing.... plus they need cap relief and possibly get a future starting goalie for after Flower retires
