That's what we all said two years ago, then he scored 30 two seasons in a row.

Is body is broken, but he can scores, here isn’t the question. He won be able to keep this rate for another 7 years. He knows & he will accept less terms

Wouldn't that be a reason for him to want more term? Even if he's playing at a lower level he will still be making cash

Fair enough. Its a valid point but by that same token we would have to bring his cap hit up higher though. Possibly 8M X 4 years which yes is high but does anyone here question Gally's heart for those 4 years? I don't. He'll give everything he's got during that time. If he ends up being injured, so be it. That could apply to anyone at any time too. All it takes is one bad knee injury and a player may be significantly worse as a result.

There's also the fact that you take the risk of a player staying healthy also. He may just end up being more conscientious of his limitations going forward to ensure he stays more healthier. A good example of this was Markov. He played a much smarter game after his 2nd knee injury. As a result he might have been less effective in the corners but he ended up not missing a single game in the following 2 seasons I believe.

Im just shooting a number. It could be 9-10M for all I know. If 7X7 is the long term, than short term its closer to 10X4 years....

By the time Gally is a free agent, the free agent market will make contracts a little higher. I don't think 9M is out of the question.

Gallagher’s contract will be interesting. In his case I believe (and hope) the longer the term you give him, the lower his aav will get. He will be 29 when his current contract expires. Usually you pay full price for UFAs until their about 34-35, then every additional year you add there’s a decrease in salary, usually.

So let’s say in Gallagher’s next deal the first 5-6years are at $7+mil. I would add the additional 2-3 years with a lowered salary to try and lower the cap, add in a NTC if that helps as well. The term will be long, and might suck once he gets to those final years, but realistically Habs will be contenders during those initial 4-5years of his deal, so it should be worth it!

So in the end, with the salary cap continuing to increase over the years, I’m hoping Gallagher gets an 8 year deal at a $6.5mil cap hit. This with all the expectations that Gally continues to score 30goals!

Even with continued salary cap increases, I’m not sure we’ll get to $9mil in 2 years for top 6 UFA wingers. But if that’s the case, the salary cap better be up around $100mil! lol
