I like that trade, horvat for 5.5 is a real nice contract. Sucks to see barrie go but i think it's a good overall hockey trade, i don't really know what Vancouver needs if they want barrie or not but Barries value is sky high right now.

Definitely if I'm the Avs, don't know about the 'Nucks though but imagine they would. Barrie type players don't come along all that often. As Arakin says it's a decent hockey trade though. Better players to have up rather than O'Connor would probably my only major criticism. Well done! wink

Nah, Colorado needs to add. Horvat is younger and locked up for three more years then Barrie and on top of that moving up from 16th to 10th in draft? A conditional 2nd does not make up for that difference

First question, what do you believe Colorado needs to add to a player who has hit 50 points in three seasons from the D versus a player who has hit 50 twice from C? You aren't looking at every aspect methinks. Barrie's value is extremely high right now. I can understand you saying you wouldn't want to let Horvat go, that's fine as a personal thing, but this is undeniably a decent 'hockey trade' that would make both teams stronger. As an alternative option Colorado's first, Kerfoot's RFA rights & Barrie for Horvat and Vancouver's first. Pretty sure what you'll say, but out of interest. Three B.C. boys coming home (I know Jost was born in Alberta but I believe he grew up in B.C.)

Edit: I put three Colorado boys and didn't include him in the trade.

Barrie is 27 and hit two of his three 50p seasons these last two seasons, while Horvat who's 24 and just hit 60p has yet to play NHL at that age, your argument is invalid
If Barrie had term it would be a great 1 for 1 deal, but then who would fill Vancouvers 2C spot? your alternative option could work if Vancouver feels Kerfoot will be their 2C, but unless Vancouver is confident that Barrie will resign the risk is to huge and i think they rather hold on to Horvat and the #10

Yeah, I don’t know VAN’s needs that well. I think they need D, but with Quinn Hughes coming maybe they don’t need Barrie.

I can see why either of these teams say no to this trade. But as far as value, I think an elite point producing defenseman hold similar, if not a little more, value than a good two-way 2C. Which is why I used Barrie to move up 6 picks. Age and contract status definitely lean the trade toward Horvat being more valuable, which is why I added in that conditional 2nd rounder for if/when he extends. Maybe the Avs do have to add a little something, but with Barrie being the best player in the trade, I don’t think it needs to be too extreme.

That's fair enough and a decent argument. Colorado might have to add another pick then, probably conditional, maybe something like a third but conditional that it moves to a first if Barrie doesn't re-sign or else Vancouver loses out big time. Or else maybe this is where a sign & trade might work. Whilst it's an extreme rarity it may become something we see more of, or at least an agreement to extend once at the new team.

Edit: I forgot to put Jost in the trade offer although I did mention him later so it's Jost or Colorado's first, with Kerfoot & Barrie for Horvat & Vancouver's 1st.
