Or... Just or... Marner isn't worth 11 million as a RFA that was the 2nd best player on his line all year

Yes I agree 100%. But Aho scores more and is a centre so he's getting Eichel money

I just find it hilarious that ever other teams fans tell me Marner is going to make 11-12 mil but yet players who are actually better than him they say will make less.
Aho >Marner all day

Well Marner's hypothetical contract can't really be the comparison, can it? Aho is great, but so is Eichel who's playing for the same bad Buffalo team, and driving offense and getting primary points at the same ridiculous rate. Eichel is 27th, Aho 67th in 5on5 primary points. I'd rather have Aho than Marner on my team, but I'd also rather have Point. I think Marner is better than Rantanen, and equal to or maybe worse than Timo Meier. No one expects Meier to get 11m, there are no comparables for basically anyone of those guys except possibly Point to get anywhere close to that. But then the actual contracts will look very different. People are suggesting Meier will earn 5-6m, Rantanen 9, Marner 11, Point 8-9, Aho around that 9 mark too. These are all over the place. Marner's dad working the media has 1) put Mitch in a very good spot 2) put all other RFA wingers in a very good spot 3) somehow not ruined his relationship with the Leafs 4) put the Leafs in a very tough spot

I think Rantanen is the best RFA this summer, then Point, then Aho, then Marner(maybe). I am not just a casual fan, been watching for years and seen them live a dozen times this year in 8 different arenas. I can tell you 100% Marner is not worth over 9 mil. If he demands itbi hope he's traded and someone else can overpay him but it won't happen.

Well, Marner had greater production with worse linemates. MacKinnon is one of the few guys that'll make you look better than Tavares will. Truth is probably that we don't exactly know who'll be better long term, but I probably trust Aho the most, since he did it mostly on his own. Rantanen to me seems like a guy who'll produce at a very high level with good players around him, but that could very well struggle "on his own", at least that's what his numbers indicate to me. I think Meier would probably look as good if not better in Rantanen's stead honestly, but there's obviously no way to prove this

I think Tavares is a bit underrated how he drags linemates up to his skill. The way he made guys like Moulson, Lee, Eberle last year for stints, and this year he got Marner another 25+ pts to his previous year. He was also the second best player vs Boston in the playoffs behind Matthews. His 2 way game is way better than I thought

laugh laugh On the Nyquist signing, No way in hell he signs that low? If Nyquist took that deal he'd still be with Detroit. Try more like 6 x 5.5 or 6 x 6 to sign Nyquist.

Yeah he's improved his defensive side from being one of the worst to at least average at defending. I think everyone recognized even from his time with the Islanders that their only actual players pre-Barzal were Tavares and whoever happened to be his linemate that season. It's not just Marner but Rielly as well, the entire PP-unit has a boost too, Tavares is just straight up great, and also a better signing than I thought he'd be

Aho is better than Marner, but Marner is nowhere near worth what he's asking. Also, this thread aged well.

Nyquist only ended up taking $1M more in a 4-year contract than what I had him at on a 3-year. oof.
