Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Lee gets same cap hit as Nelson but 2 more years, full NTC/NMC for 6 years and limited NTC for the remaining 2 years. He could get more money elsewhere but he's got full control of where he goes if it comes to that.

Lehner gets a nice raise with a short deal if he wants to stay. Sorokin is looming any season from this point on.

Boychuk going to the Avs would hopefully get approved by him since he's been there before and they're in a good position themselves. Greiss would help them with goaltending in a cheaper way than Varlamov and could extend long term for less than his price as well. The Isles should be able to get back a 1st Round Pick for them easily.

Now of course, this is all with Ladd on LTIR. I'm confident they could find SOMEONE to take him if they had to. I know at this point he full NTC is down to to a mNTC. Even if it's a bad team to eat the salary, throw in a draft pick and low prospect and it's good. There's zero expected on the return

Long term outlook let's this core stick together for quite some time. A few pieces will have to be dealt away to clear room but they're not immovable contracts:

Looking to next year, there's a bit more than $10 mil on the cap. We'll assume most of that is going to Barzal. Smith is only here until Sorokin is ready. If Sorokin comes then money has to be cleared. If Sorokin is out still, Isles find a similar replacement. Moving Leddy for picks and no salaries coming back clears up enough room to sign Pulock for sure, likely Clutterbuck goes for the same return and that's Toews extended easily. Aho can be brought back, maybe. Wilde comes up at that point and there's 6D back there for sure, just need the 7th for bench. If Martin comes back, he's getting $1 mil or so and should be able to just squeeze under. Johnston fits that role and is signed for some time however so Martin isn't totally necessary.

Going forward passed that we're in good shape to have money for Cizikas again. By the time guys like Dobson, Wilde and Pelech (if he's still around) come up there will be other ways to clear space or the cap will have gone up some as well to help the situation. There's still a return to be had from whoever gets moved out to make room for a full time Wahlstrom slot whenever that time comes. Looks like it's not going to be this upcoming season, or at least not the start of it.

That’s not a 1st round pick with of value and avs already have 7 dmen for next season and have Francouz as the back up so neither of those players make any sense for the avs

I wasn’t sure about the Avs goaltending situation entirely, really just that Varlymov was likely gone. I think for a team that’s push for a cup run, that has some space, the move is worth a 1st Rounder. Colorado may not be that team though.

Boychuk will be 36 next season and has 3 years left ton his contact, and Greiss is a 33 year old pending UFA goalie. Those are not very desirable players when you are locking in over 9m in cap space. You won't get a. 1st rounder for those guys

How about Beauvillier, Dobson, 19’ 2nd and 20’ 1st? It’s a little more quality vs quantity. If Dobson is untouchable how about Pulock?

Laine supposedly wants out. If they don’t trade his rights, they’ll lose him for just Picks. I’d leave the offer and if it’s no dice then whatever. They’re getting a depth defender on a good contract, a versatile winger that is better fit on Winnipeg than NYI, a good young prospect and 2 1st rd picks. Good enough to me in my opinion. Those 3 can be in the lineup and altogether cost less than Laine. Makes them a more well-rounded team.

Fair enough, for the record though, I’m not referring to the Ottawa pick that a Colorado got. I’m talking about their own. They could add stipulations too, like Boychuk has to play a certain number of games this season, Greiss has to extend, etc. Again though, maybe they’re not the right team to matchup here.
