Re-thinking the Trochek-Barrie trade

Team: 2019-20 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 10, 2019
Published: Jun. 10, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
*EDITED* Un-retained salary on Barrie's part.

- Yeah, it's a steep price for Trochek, but that's what it will take and the Avs can afford it. I think it'll be worth it in the end for a high-end jack-of-all trades player.

- Conditions for 2020 1st round pick (COL) are void if Barrie is traded in the season.

Thats too much for COL to give up. Trocheck is a 50 point player with 1 great season. Not worth 3 significant assets, especially if COL has to take Reimer as a cap dump on top of that

Getting Trochek will cost a lot. He's another Ryan O'Reilly type of player who is very strong in both ends and right now he's low cost for the next 3 years. Florida is taking a hit here so it has to be enticing. Besides in this scenario, a very specific situation would have to happen in order to lose that 1st rounder and with Trochek on the team, I see that being a 22nd-28th overall pick. We still have Kaut, Timmins, Bowers, who we're getting at 4th and 16th (likely Dach and Harley but I am hoping Byram and Kaliyev) and a few good supplemental prospects in Saigeon, Henry and Werner. The trade value is tilted in Florida's favor but the overall value at the end of the day helps the Avs a lot.

Way to expensive for trocheck, Barrie is basically on par with him pts-wise... so I'm not giving up Barrie, kerfoot, ranta and possibly 2 1sts

It would just possibly be the one 1st, but yeah fair enough. I do like Trochek a lot. I'll admit watching O'Reilly in the playoffs this year has made me miss him so I am on a search for that kind of player. I would absolutely love for Jost or whoever we get 4th overall to turn into that player and I think that's why Sakic is likely targeting Dach or Turcotte. In my heart of hearts, I am down for one more year of Barrie anyways.

I'm really hoping we get turcotte at 4 but if he goes to the hometown Chicago then it depends on if Barrie is in the future plans, if not they pick byram, if he is then probably cozens or dach
