Description
Kessel is a Pen next year. And I'm not sad about that. Hopefully he can get back to 2017 form. Buyout JJ, Maatta and unfortunately Hornqvist are moved to make space then sign some FA's.....that's the only plan now. Not sure if this team is better than last years but ya gotta start somewhere. I might have Guds/Schultz/Letang/Kessel on trade block if the right thing comes along.

Maatta will get more than that, Plus GMJR loves the dude and will not give him away. He is a 24yr old Top 4 Dman that avg 19-20 min per game, that is on a good deal.... Plus has rings & a ton of playoff exp.

Think what other D-men got ... Larsson to EDM (i mean pray for that return, lol) , Muzzin to TOR (tho older), Hamonic to CGY,

Your joking right Maatta is absolute dog**** he is on a terrible contract and at best at a low top 4 D he is terrible defensively and your comparing him to Muzzin and Hamonic, have you ever seen Maatta play.

His career avg CF% is 50.2 and has only had 2 seasons below 50 CF% with one of the seasons being an injured season. Pretty good.

He had the highest CF% and second highest FF% on the penalty kill.

86CF% when he got on the powerplay.

$4 mil a year for even a bottom tier top 4 dman is still good.

He's a great complimentary d-partner. When he's next to players like Letang and Schultz, he elevates his, and their, game. But when he's next to replacement level talent like JJ, Riikola, and Ruhwedel then he's probably not going to have a great game.

His only knock is that he's extremely slow. And him being "bad" is only believed because it has been exacerbated by the echo chamber of opinions this website has become.

Ok Bro, He has been a top 4 D-man here that hit a bad patch at end of this yr... That mite need a change rite now. You are prob like most, that only see's Maatta lack of speed but rarely gets beat bc his usually in good position. There is a reason he avg's 18-20 min of TOI here - Its bc he is good at hockey.
