The Trade is One for One CGY TOR VGK WSH

Created by: Dodger510
Team: 2019-20 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 12, 2019
Published: Jun. 12, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Probably needs a true goal scorer, but if line 2 can combine for 50ish in year 1 and grow together I think we're in a good spot.

We're also $17m under the cap, so teams looking to dump salary could help us regain some of those draft picks.

I also think Calgary declines, but let's chat.

From the Leafs perspective, I don't think they want to give up Kapanen for a rental without an extension. And I'm not sure Vatanen is a guy they would target. Not saying the value is off, just that I think the fit is.

Ha, was it an overpay? I had a hard time figuring out his value. It's picks number 61 or 62 and 70.

Yeah, I'd probably accept a mid-round pick or a reclamation project/change of scenery candidate for Bura.

McNabb is so underrated and Reaves is a fan favorite – I get it. VGK does shed $10m in cap space here too. Devils need a Reaves-like player in this lineup considering most of their forwards are small.

No way Calgary accepts that deal. They would be getting 66 cents on the dollar.

Changes needed to get VGK to consider the deal.

Miller (not Mcnabb)
Reaves
(No need for Clarkson as he goes LTIR, so who cares)

4

Bratt (not low level prospect Santini)
2019 2nd
2020 5th

You're really under-valuing Bratt in that deal, and he's not for sale.

Beyond that, McNabb is the target because the Devils need LD because at the moment Severson, Vatanen, Butcher and Ty Smith all play RD.

As far as Clarkson goes, I think the owner would have something to say about paying someone $5m to not play hockey.

In what respect? Paying someone $5m to do nothing, VS not paying that person?

Hanifin is truthfully their 4th or 5th best dman (Gio, Andersson, Hamonic, and at times Brodie all deliver better results). Taylor Hall is a top 10 LW in the NHL.

No I’m not. Foley doesn’t care how much he pays to have a successful franchise. This isn’t Canadian ownership here taking shortcuts and finding cheap ways out. Our staff is one of the highest paid. The fact of the matter is we don’t need and probably won’t trade Clarksons contract, especially if it diminishes the value of any trade we are trying to make

I understand that but a LTIR does not count against the cap. So why would we take lesser value to “dump” a truly non cap issues?

Pittsburgh just got a very good prospect with NHL experience and a 5th for Maata. Miller is way better, not injury prone, and plays the more coveted right side on a similar contract. How is Miller not worth a prospect and a 3rd, at the very least?

Kind of, but I never asked for Miller, and Bratt is a top-6 winger – a HUGE step up from "a 5th and a prospect."
