Ideal Pens offseason

Created by: DatGuyDuane
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 15, 2019
Published: Jun. 15, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
*This is the first time submitting so go easy on me*
-The team has strayed further and further away from the identity that won them two cups - speed and youth.
-Maatta has already been shipped out, pair that with Johnson and thats a lot of cap space and two liabilities on the D gone
- I saw somewhere on twitter (I know not completely accurate information) during the whole Kessel saga the other week that Montreal may have been interested, so getting a younger player back plus the first would be huge
-With the two first round picks, in an ideal world if still available, I'd love for the Penguins to grab both Cam York and Jacob Pelletier, two good prospects that'll help the Penguins prospect pool

Any constructive criticism is welcomed if values aren't 100% accurate which they probably aren't

Mtl are in reset mode. Rebuilt if you prefer. They wont trade are best LW and the 15th OA pick for an aging winger

    Kessel 31 years old
    vs
Jonathan Drouin 24 years old + 15 overall
The only way (0.01%) Bergevin trade his first (and/or drouin) is for a young LHD

Fair. I thought adding Drouin might be a bit hopeful. What about someone like Domi? And the Pens adding a prospect such as Hallander or Bellerive to sweeten it a bit?

Max Domi. 82 games 28 goals 44 assists for 72 pts and a +20. The guy was our top center and his young (24). He is a real competitor on the ice like his dad (tie) and unlike Drouin.
I know fans may overrate their player (like me here possibely), but men it would take 2 or 3 Kessel before Marc start to listen !!
Edit : way more chance Drouin getting trade ! (Bad value right now tho)

Yeah I see what you’re sayin. Honestly was prioritizing the pick here since the pens need to stock up on good prospects and it’s a deep draft. Also wanted a serviceable winger who could produce in that 40-60 point range.

Meant to have Pettersson there honestly my mistake. Riikola showed some promise last year. My view on it is that while this D core isn’t amazing, it could be serviceable, while seemingly not any worse than the **** show that was last years defence

yes that would be a good retur for Kessel. You need to find a team that is All in with cap space for kessel contract and you may get a late first + solid winger

Kessel has full control and has pretty much ended all trade talks.
They didn't trade for Kahun to put him on the 4th line. I think they are officially set at LW for next year. Kahun is an NHL level player. He'll be on the 2nd or 3rd line depending where McCann slots.

Riikola, 3rd pairing or 7th defense man.
We'll see. They have options for the 3rd pairing.

It’s worse than last years D. Same players with less depth. Riikola is not an NHL dman, he can’t be a regular starter. Last year JJ or Maatta could play in that spot and while they aren’t exactly beauties they are miles ahead of the likes of Riikola/Ruhwedel. And Maatta is prolly better than Guddy too.

That said, this Dcore is a lot more manageable and easier to improve than the year prior. But it desperately needs a top 4 dman or at least a dman who can step up if a top 4 goes down
