I'm sorry but without AA Larkin doesn't score 32 goals. AA is more important to the Wings than Mantha and if Mantha did score 15 points in the last 10 games he would probably be on a different team by now. Plus Larkin and Bertuzzi played a big part in those 15 points in 10 games.

they also werent getting the 4th OA pick from winnipeg. We are gonna lose AA in two years to FA. MIght as well get something for him. Not to mention his skillset probably wont age well. Id rather get something while his value is at its highest.

Gotta give something to get something and AA is about the only (realistic, they wouldn't trade Larkin) player at Detroit the Avs would be interested in. Barrie is going to cost if you want him, just like AA would and this isn't a bad trade, but you also might get a conditional pick for if Barrie doesn't re-sign.
