Dude, Laine thinks he is Matthews. No way he takes a penny less than Marner (who also thinks he is Matthews)

Jordie Benn at $3.2M?? Put down the pipe!!
And Lowry isn't a 3C let alone a 2C so that's a big problem, need a center that Laine works with if this team is ever gonna improve.

LMAO... Leaf fans really think that a quick comment Laine said when he was 17 would carry over into his contract negotiations. $8 Million is probably about right, if not a little high, on a short-term deal... I don't see an 8 x 8... But maybe an $8 x 3year. That would make more sense.

His agent has implied it. He has two ridiculous seasons and this is his one down year.
On a 3 year deal 8 seems right, but on a long term deal like OP proposed, he is not going a penny under Marner

This is not a very good hockey team... I'd rather bring back Chiarot or Beaulieu for less $$ than that Jordie Benn deal... Get rid of Matt Perreault... Make a deal for a real 2C, and put Lowry to the 4th line.

That being said, OP did say that he used Evolving Wild's salary projections... Which makes sense.

Yeah, just tried to make everything as realistic as possible. Chose Benn as he had good hockeyviz charts when i was browsing for a cheap LD for this squad. As much as it is fun to throw together a bunch of trades, its tough to gauge the real value between clubs. and Trades don't happen often enough

personally i think a play like lowry or copp could jump up in the top 6 this year. Clearly Little is not a 2C as we continuously replace him for our 1st round picks. Laine should play with Scheifele. let players like Ehlers carry the second line.

Jordie Benn is actually a very good LD for cheap. Chiarot will cost as much as he would, but is not as good. used evolving wild for the contracts so i think that the Benn contract is somewhat realistic.

again, used Evolving Wild contract predictions for this. Laine in no way thinks he is Matthews. Matthews drives play whereas Laine hasn't begun to. Marner is getting a bit ridiculous at this point and honestly shouldn't make more than 10M. You pay big money for goal scoring centres, not play making wingers. Laine is a weird case. I hope the Jets lock him up long term cause itll pay off in the future IMO

Copp could MAYBE be a 2C but that's a big maybe and neither Copp or Lowry have ever hit the 30 points a season mark in their careers yet, we really think they're top 6 forwards now? Sorry I don't see it.

So the Little is no longer a 2C narrative, you do realize he suffers being on that line just as much as Laine and Ehlers do? Little was on pace for a 50 point season which is actually pretty respectable 2C numbers before Hayes showed up and Little easily would've produced what Hayes did in his time as a Jet, Little doesn't get the respect he deserves and 2C's aren't easy to find. I think he'd be more then fine with anyone other then Laine and I agree Laine should be playing with Scheiffele. Whatever they do this season the Laine center issue has to be figured out, really wish they'd break up Scheiffele and Wheeler and give Roslovic a chance to center a line with more skilled wingers.

Yeah I'm sure Benn is decent but Beaulieu could probably be negotiated down to half that money cause no way anyone is giving him his qualifying offer.
So a cheaper Beaulieu and a Morrow or some other veteran D at say $1.25M is two depth defenseman for the price of Benn and you always need defensive depth. Idk, that's what I'd do anyway.

I know. I'm not saying Laine and marner are Matthews, but all indications are that they think they are comparable. I hope they get closer to their worth, I really do, but I can't see Laine getting much less than marner with some of the seasons he has had at his age
