Didn't Marner reportedly turn down an 8-year, $88m contract? And would that mean why they are trying to have shorter term so they can have a lower cap hit? Makes sense, I still think he gets the same contract Matthews got.

Well the Leafs won't give him that. He's not worth it in Toronto or elsewhere, and a 5-year deal should be off the table. Leafs don't want Matthews, Marner and Nylander leaving at the same time with Tavares leaving the year after.

I think he should get 8 years, $10.5 per, which is the exact contract Patrick Kane got. I think no RFA should be getting prime-player contracts, but the market is shifting and they are more valuable now. Still a ton of money and He get's locked up into his 30s where he can still make another big contract.

That would be fair, but unfortunately Marner's agent doesn't understand that.
