I cannot for the life of me make the math work to make this a better team. No Zucker, No Donskoi, No Connolly, No Brown, No nothing...I Still hope the Caps could have some level of decent contending team...or not.

Poolparty is actively bad at hockey right now. Everyone gets that right? He's A LOT worse than Burakovsky, particularly 2nd half of 2018-2019 Burakovsky. Just keep that in mind, because it's kind of crazy how many proposals have Burakovsky going for a worse player.

Good Poolparry BE better? I guess, but we're contending right now.

Guys who were immediately better after leaving edm.

Hall
Eberle
Shultz
Drake cagg
Yak

You can’t say he’s not better or worse bc nobody actually knows bc of how bad edm screwed up his development

By your logic Brett Connelly should have been terrible also.m but coming to dc saved his career.

It took Brett Connolly his 3rd year to be worth anything serious. People were clamoring last offseason to upgrade him!

All those guys, besides Yak, were also better pros than Poolparty is now. Watch the guy play, he's legit bad. He needs a lot of time in the AHL.

I’ve watched him play. He’s very solid. Connelly and dsp are guys who were lost causes or aren’t nhl players. Without them no cups. Bura is good imo but JP could be the next vrana

Now that the Capitals have qualified Burakovsky, he's not getting traded anywhere unless the Caps retain $1.5M+ of salary. He's a $1.75-2M player, not a $3.25M player.

Haha you guys overpaid kovi...... bura value is mainly in his potential and the caps would more than likely keep him than retain 50% of his salary bc “he’s not a 3.25m player”. I would at most do 500k but again I would have to get a pretty solid return on him.

I'm not sure what your point is about Kovalchuk. He's in the same situation as Burakovsky. The Kings won't be able to trade him unless they retain a significant portion of his salary.

The Caps likely qualified him because they don't want to lose him for nothing. He still has value as an NHL player (as does Kovalchuk). Better to qualify him and explore moving him to a Western Conference team with retained salary than make him a UFA and watch him sign with the Penguins.

All I know is our current team won't cut it. We have huge question marks at 3RW and 4LW and 4RW. Losing Connolly is a lot of lost secondary scoring. Bura won't replace half of it unless he has a career year. GMBM must have a trick or two up his sleeve this summer, no way he's okay with this roster as it's shaping up.

My point is a player being overpaid is simply opinion based. Bura is still young and 3.25 for a potential 40 point guy isn’t terrible

Unfortunately players shouldn't be paid based on potential, especially on cap-strapped contenders.

I understand why he got what he got. I'm just saying he's not worth what he got. Caps should keep him this year and hope that he can improve his game. Otherwise they're going to have to eat some of his salary.
