OMG - either match and trade him or trade the picks for players. You took all of Marner's cap hit and paid Hainsey, Girardi, and Stralman. That is just brutal

you dont match because its to much money for him as a player. I love mitch as a player and would love to keep him but he isnt worth being the highest paid winger in the nhl by far. 9-10 mill i would keep him over 10 it would hurt 11+ is nuts. now if he had 2-3 seasons like he did last year then maybe but look at karlsson on vegas had 1 43 goal season and then back down to 24 goal season.

So you rather pay Marner 11,000,000 and have Marlies defense, because that all the cap space we would have left. Not to mention this would give Toronto 4 first round pick for future.

This is wild. You managed to let Marner walk and make your defense way worse with the money. Thats some galaxy brain stuff homes.

If the leafs let marner walk then they will use that compensation to bring in a defenseman for the future, not a couple aging plugs

I always find these posts...virtually meaningless when the author refuses to show the team roster that actually sign Marleau.
In this case, Carolina. Carolina has 25m in cap space with 8 roster spaces to sign. So what Aho and Marner....11m each. 3m to sign 6 players.. Now tell how practical is that?

Please let's show teams that have cap ability to offer sheet any RFA.
