right, Brian Boyle and Ryan Hartman both got 1st rounders back. Does that mean we're all gonna offer that? Is Sam Gagner worth a 1st rounder? Come on man. 3rd rounder + Brodziak is most I'm willing to do for Brown, anything else I'll look for third liners in FA worth 2M.

Good luck improving your team sir. Trying to get a premium rate on everything is going to get you about as far as Chiarelli got you. Edmonton has a tonne of needs, very few prospects and not much space. You have to buy guys who could be bargains. A former 20 goal scorer who has played with McDavid (outscored him that year, and I know that doesn't matter but it shows they could work well together), at 2.1 million is a bargain of a player. Thats the sort of stuff Edmonton needs to do. Sign Ennis for 2 years at 2.5 and hope he can provide quality offense at a cheap rate.

To think you can low ball guys and grind other teams when you are in a position of weakness is silly.

agree with the second part. and I guess my whole point is that when people say we're stuck with Lucic's contract, its a bit of an exaggeration. First of all, if you're not dressing him, he's not a problem on the ice. So the Oilers could dress 12 forwards ahead of Milan. Secondly, if push came to shove at the expansion draft, yes buying him out gives us no cap flexibility, but it does mean we get to protect someone else who has more value, so still worth it. And lastly, like I said, his actual money owed is less than his cap hit. Budget teams love to eat these kinds of contracts because it helps them reach the floor. Imagine eating 50% percent of that and we're practically paying his salary to play somewhere else. I'm saying the contract is easier to move than you make it seem to be.

I don't know if you meant to quote someone else or not, but I explicitly said that we're probably stuck with Looch for another year or two until the contract becomes more palatable. That doesn't imply that we're stuck with him until the contract runs out.

That does not, however, change the fact that the contract is still nearly buyout proof. If push comes to shove, and Lucic does not waive his NMC before the expansion draft, it becomes a last-minute resort. But, there will be no cap savings, and management will have to make a decision accordingly.

I hope that clarifies my position on this.

My point is yes we need bargain guys. Trading a 2nd and 3rd rounder for Connor Brown is definitely not a bargain. That's more than above market value for him. Ennis at 2.5M is not a bargain either. I'm fully aware the Oilers aren't in any position of strength which is all the more reason to not make stupid deals like two picks for a 3rd line player. I defitely see a fit for Brown on the roster. But not at the cost of a 2nd rounder AND a 3rd.

I said 2nd or a 3rd and Brown isn't likely a 3rd liner in Edmonton, 2nd line at worst and first liner likely unless they find someone better currently, they don't have anyone better.
