Trades with VGK TOR CAR and DET

Created by: TheMooterus
Team: 2019-20 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 26, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In all honesty, I really don't know how Vegas fans value players right now, due to their cap situation. Obviously, in a normal situation these guys would be worth more. I would be really curious to know how Golden Knights value this deal, and what needs to be added/taken away in order for it to be a viable trade solution.

Trades
1.
DAL
  1. Eakin, Cody
  2. Korczak, Kaedan [Reserve List]
  3. Smith, Reilly
Additional Details:
This is purely due to salary cap restricitions. The Knights are currently $7.5M over the Salary Cap. Vegas is able to dump $8.85M in cap space by moving Eakin & Smith. Given how little leverage the Knights have in any negotiations, they will likely have to move a valuable prospect/pick to entice a team to help them out.

Dallas gets the RD that it needs in it's prospct pool, along with a more expensive replacement for Faksa and the top-6 scorer they need.
VGK
  1. Cecconi, Joseph
  2. Faksa, Radek ($1,100,000 retained)
  3. Tufte, Riley
  4. 2021 3rd round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Vegas gets a two-way guy that is better, and cheaper, than Cody Eakin, along with a couple of prospects that are still a year or two away from seeing NHL time. This preserves the Golden Knights limited salary cap space for at least the next couple of seasons.
2.
DAL
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (TOR)
TOR
  1. Honka, Julius [RFA Rights]
  2. Janmark, Mattias
Additional Details:
This is contingent on Toronto finding someone to take on Zaitsev & Kadri's contracts.

Honka would be a much cheaper replacement for Zaitsev, and could turn out to be a really solid bottom-4, puck moving defenseman if he is given the ice time. His advance possession numbers are actually pretty solid.

Janmark won't ever be a replacement for Kadri, but if Toronto were to move someone else up into Kadri's 3C role, Janmark could slot into their bottom-6 spot in the lineup. He's a quick, shifty skater with good skills on the PK. Won't be a 40+ point per year player, but he's a more than servicable bottom-6 guy.
3.
DAL
  1. van Riemsdyk, Trevor
Additional Details:
Between Lindell, Heiskanen, and Oleksiak, Bayreuther could very well be the odd man out. Dallas has an abundance or LD in their prospect pool that they would be able to call up in case of injury (Djuse, Hanley, Heatherington, etc.).

In TVR, Dallas gets a 3RD to play behind a (hopefully) healthy Stephen Johns. Should Johns not be ready for the season, the Stars would start with TVR as their 2RD and Polak as their 3RD.
CAR
  1. Bayreuther, Gavin [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Similar to Dallas Left Side, Carolina's Right Side is pretty stacked. Between Hamilton, Faulk, and Pesce, TVR could find himself playing on his off hand, or pushed out of the lineup altogether.

This deal clears up a log jam for both teams, and gives them a bottom pairing defenseman that can jump in right away and eat up some minutes at the NHL level.
4.
DAL
  1. 2020 5th round pick (DET)
DET
  1. Comeau, Blake
Additional Details:
Helps out the NHL's 4th worst PK unit.

All in all, I like these moves. TVR would be a nice addition for us.

Out of curiosity, how do you think Pavelski would fit in Dallas?

https://twitter.com/PierreVLeBrun/status/1144017531700731905 Apparently, they're interested in him.

I like Pavelski in Dallas. I normally shy away from guys in their mid-30's but Pavs hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. That being said, he is still 35-years old at the start of the season. I don't care how well you play, I have an extremely hard time giving a guy that age any more than a 2-year deal. It sounds like he's looking for 3, and honestly if he's dead set on a 3-year deal, I would probably shop elsewhere. Max offer I would give him would be a 2-year, $14.5M deal ($7.25M AAV).

If he wants 3 year deal, I'd give him that, but I'd probably plan the contract to be low in salary and possibly without NMCs for the last year.

For example, a 3-year, $22,5M contract, first year with $11M salary and full NMC and NTC, second year with $7,5M salary with NMC and NTC with 10-team trade list, and the last year for $4M without no clauses at all.

Just so we don't end up in Marleau situation where we must re-sign Heiskanen but are out of money because of his contract. Gotta make it a tad easier to get rid of if necessary.

I agree as the Wings get younger it makes no sense to bring in a 33yr old.
