Description

Greer and Compher were signed to trade to the Rangers. The fact that the Rangers shed a ton of cap and get another first round pick next year make it worth it. Compher gives them secondary scoring and Kaut and Greet could help with 3rd/ 4th line this year. Barbiero would be a 3rd pair defenseman.

Ranger fan here, and even I know the Avalanche are giving up too much in this deal.

Why would the Avs make that trade? Kreider is a 1 year rental, Shattenkirk is overpaid and would play on the 3rd pairing, and we already have way too many LHDs so lindgren makes no sense. Meanwhile we give up a young versatile nhler in Compher, our 2nd best forward prospect in Kaut, our best AHL player, AND a 1st rounder? (Barberio is basically insignificant in this deal so I'll ignore him)

This trade uses up all the Avs extra cap space and makes their team worse in the future. Big fat no from Joe Sakic
