Love Kadri and hate to see him leave the leafs, but is this roster really better with him instead of the other two? I can see it if the RD young guys step in and are good but I don't know man, I don't overly get this trade by the avs unless it's because they clearly didn't want Barrie back

They were never going to resign him at year end. Would have cost too much and they have guys (Makar, Byram) coming in that are also going to demand a lot of money eventually who will fill what Barrie did for them. They either trade him now (which they did for what was their most pressing need) or lose him at year end for nothing. The two wildcards for me are Jost and Bura. If those two can play well and have 40+ point seasons, this team will score at will. Remains to be seen though.

That's the question and that's why I think they wanted to move on from him. He's not quite good enough to be a 2nd line center and he's not really a good fit as a 3rd line center defensively. He probably would've been the 2nd line center by default but he's too inconsistent and doesn't really drive his line. With this trade I think the roster fits together better. Even tho Barrie is awesome, he obviously wasn't gonna be resigned and the Avs got what they could.

Ya I think you just described what I have been saying about Johnsson and Kapanen whenever people called them top 6 players. Frustrates me. Some guys are just not able to take that role on. Kerfoot only has to be a 3-4 centre this year with Spezza able to bail him out when needed. But the 3.5 mil shows me Dubas knows him enough that he is not a top 6 guy

As a leafs fan, thanks for the insight! Would it be a fair assessment to say he's a better version of Trevor Moore?

He can also be a complimentary player on the wing with better players. Bednar had him with MacKinnon and Landeskog for a while down the stretch and it worked for a little bit. He needed that towards the end of the season to get his 40 points. He does play the power play well and he's got a little bit of a clutch factor but he'll disappear at times.
