McDavid prime years to a Cup Contender

Created by: franky_22

Description
It's pretty clear McGod waste precious years in EDM. This is the kind of mega-trade that must be made to alleviate McDavid's suffering and allow him to win the Cup a few times before he is too old. 2 top prospects (Jost, Kaut) + 2 young and established players (Zadorov , Compher) added to 4 first round picks. That's enough for Connor in EDM. #FreeConnor

Fun to fantasize about as an Avs fan I'm sure but you know that any notion of a trade for McDavid has to start with either Rantanen or MacKinnon involved. Otherwise its just irrelevant to think about.

You arent going to get full value for McDavid back, especially not MacKinnon. His contract and his ability outweighs the value of McDavid on his contract. Sorry but thats just the reality of how contracts impact trade values. McDavid is stlll the best player in the world, but do you want him at 12.5m or MacK who is easily top 5 in the world and half the cost....I think you take mackinnon

Oilers are in a bad bad spot, on paper arguably the are worse than they were last year but still are going to try to convince McDavid to ride out a season or 2 until they can undo all the damage that has been done to that roster?

It's McDavid...you are going to get full value lol. Rantanen or MacKinnon as a STARTING point.

No you wont, bc no team is going to trade all their value and gut their team just to become the Oilers...one star and no depth. Thats how bad of a spot the Oilers are in, You arent getting Super Stars elite players+++ back for McDavid.

I wouldnt move Mackinnon or Rants for McDavid, the juice isnt worth the squeeze

MacKinnon is definitely the best value in the league, but the contract is about half the length of McDavid's as well. Assuming we're talking about keeping both players for the longest possible contract length, over the course of the next seven years MacKinnon will make 6.3 mil for 4 and then probably 14-15 mil for 3 considering the rising cap. So that changes things a bit.

Second, yes McDavid will be frustrated if things don't improve soon, but many great players have gone through early woes. Yzerman made it further than the first round only twice in his first 11 years with the wings. Ovi did so only twice in his first 9 with the caps. Mario made the playoffs once in his first 6. So some perspective is useful.

Yeah so the MacKinnon contract value bargain argument is decent in comparison to McDavid, but if you wouldn't trade Rantanen for McDavid then you obviously just inflate the value of players on your own team to your own liking. That's absurd.

I think one of Makar or Byram has to be in the mix too.

He's not getting traded unless they get full value... that's the point.

I wouldn’t bc different players filling different needs in the line up. Avs don’t need McDavid so they have no need to sacrifice Rantanen for s player as Great as he is in McDavid I don’t see the points. To make Mack the 2c or shift him go to the wing? Why

Lol, trading for the best player in the league is going to cost a lot, and Edmonton is going to want a young defenseman. Either them or Girard.

Girard perhaps, but Makar and Byram....nah They are going to keep their high end cost controlled top pairing to come and for the next decade.

Thats the point of the whole mcdavid trade ideas...what is he worth as the best player in the game, the moon and back, but what will a team give up for them, not even close to that bc of that exact reason. Who in their right mind is going to torpedo their team, roster, pipeline to get mcdavid just to inherit what the oilers have as an issue. One Top end player that you have no one to build around and on high end prospects to come.

7 years guaranteed of Mcdavid at 12.5 outweighs 4 years guaranteed of Mackinnon. Mack has a steal of a contract however he is gonna ask 13+ in 4 years time.

Trying WInning a cup in the next 4 years on Macks Contract is worth more than having McDavid for an additional 3 years of McDavid after blowing up the team just becomes the Oilers with the same issues. When the Avs C Depth of MacKinnon Kadri and Jost is less than McDavids cap hit. I would keep a well built team over McDavid and some spare parts like the OIlers

They dont....one of the youngest rosters in the NHL, a solid prospect pipeline, have a top 5 player under contract for multiple years, one of the top young RWers in the game, while making the playoffs back to back season, going to the limit in the 2nd round and arguably should have advanced if it wasnt for a BS offside goal called back.

Oh and they did this all before adding one of the top Young D prospects in the world in Makar. Where in all of that do the Avs need McDavid and his what...additional 12ish points that he gets more than MacKinnon?
