Panthers Still Need to Make Trades

Created by: hockey101

Initial Creation Date: Jul. 3, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The depth chart here shows that the Panthers will need to make a few moves to fit under the cap.

Even by eliminating the players that are listed as depth, they will still need to shed some salary.

Easiest trade victim is Pysyk, but they may need to give away one more player. Malkin, possibly?

Yet, despite the major signings, which are good short-term but painful long-term, there is still a sense that they’re not done yet on making another improvement.

I still would not completely rule out the possibility that Hoffman can be traded. He did great, and he provides much needed offense, but the following factors need to be considered:

1) unlikely to re-sign
2) Panthers requested his no teams trade list prior to trade deadline
3) will he repeat similar goals scored?
4) teams are still in the market for a scorer

I think Hoffman is probably the most movable asset that would put you under the cap when you remove 5 depth players. Perhaps you could get a player with a lower cap hit to play in the middle six back?

He’s definitely the most valuable. Makes me wonder if the Blue Jackets will phone in. Panthers would be losing 30 goals though and need to replace that with some offense. That’s where they have the prospects to possibly trade for Gusev, even though that is a risk. Possibly get Dzingel on the cheap?

I think they only trade Hoffman for Defensive help and you young players like Malgin to get Gusev.

Before I was open to trading him if we got panarin bit now I just can’t see them trading him unless they know borgstrom or tippet is ready to make a jump forward. Yes we need d help but I think getting rid of pysyk and possibly sceviour will help the cap issues and trying to find a solid third line LD will benefit more than trading Hoffman. Last years team was just really bad cause of the coaching.

They do, but they also would need to find room. I think the 3rd pair will be fine with Brown and possibly McCoshen, Stillman, or Weegar if he can play LD, or Brown if he can play LD. The second pair will have Matheson playing with either Stralman or Ekblad. If they get defensive help then it would be to replace Matheson, or Ekblad which is unlikely. Yandle is most likely not going anywhere.

We'll see what happens. I think they'll stick with this D group. Pysyk will be given a chance with a new coaching staff. Whoever disappoints or gets outperformed in training camp and pre-season will be traded then.

But I think that there are a few teams out there that missed out on FA scorers and would like to see what Hoffman will cost.

Yeah. Boughner was likable but that coaching staff had no grip on this team. There was never any accountability and it created an atmosphere that accepted mediocre play.
