Backes buyout next year is very manageable. They just need to get through this year. Which they can easily do by moving a combination of Miller, Moore, Halak, one of their 6 fourth liners.

They are not giving you a 1st and their best prospect. They are not desperate like Toronto was. Also - Toronto didn't give up their best prospect.

a 1st and a mid to decent prospect and keep Bodekker - that dude stinks. That is about all you'd get.

Honestly Backes has more value than Eriksson at this point, so I don't get the values

BOS would do that package for Brannstrom and that's about it. They wouldn't give up Studnicka and a first for Stone but they're going to do it to save 2M? That's some galaxy brain ish.

I wouldn't do Backes and first for Boedker, adding in their #1 prospect might the worst CF trade in history.

Take out Studnicka. Maybe. You are still getting first for the cost of buying out Backes. Pretty cheap way to get a 1st. Boedker is just as bad as Backes just more manageable contract.

Canucks arent interested in this deal either. IMO Taking on Zack Smith takes away the value of sending Erikkson to Ottawa. Canucks counter with LE with $1.5 million retained for Zack Smith.

Ottawa does this because they are getting away from Zack Smith plus they are taking on a $4.5mil cap hit for only $1.5mil actual dollars. Over the 3 years that you would have LE on the books his net salary that Ottawa would pay is $4,500,000. Ottawa saves $6.5mil in salary for Smith and $9mil from Erikkson (Cap hit v. Actual Dollars).

Canucks do this because they are saving $1.5 in cap room in 19/20 & 20/21 and $4.5 in 21/22. They also have the ability to turn Smith into another asset before the season starts or at the TDL.
