Description
One guy in the press box makes this doable. Lot's of movement with the Marlies this year due to injuries. Is there a maximum number of call-ups in a season?

Lilly-Grin makes the team this year.

Unless something changes, like he has an outstanding camp, Liljegren will not start the season in the NHL. He may be called up at some point over the course of the season, sort of like what the Leafs did with Dermott, but as of this moment, he did not look NHL ready as of the Marlies 2019 playoff run.

I don't think 11 is an overpay. Hard to argue that Marner didn't have better seasons than Matthews the last two years, and Marner's chemistry with Tavares is worth something too. Keeping a star happy with a comparable contract to his star teammates.

Matthews is much much better than Marner. Its not even close. Also C>W, G>A.. Marner above 10 mil is overpayment.

You may be right, if Matthews wasn't hurt, he'd lead the team in points... but I don't think 10mil gets it done tbh. Paul is gonna squeeze another million out of them.

Dubas is not gonna allow that. I think its gonna be Kucherov like 3yr deal (more AAV of course)

He can try, but the Leafs aren't idiots.

Let's hope. I guess I'm still scarred by the JFJ days... Willy's contract scared me.

What I like about your roster is that you pay 11M and you still keep all the pieces... though can only 20 roster spots work? I don't know the precedent there. I guess if they wanted another roster spot, that's where they'd have to balance paying Marner 11M with term vs paying less (10 or less?) for 3 yrs or so? I couldn't figure out how to pay Marner 11M, and then get under the cap WITHOUT trading Ceci. I've seen that a lot in rosters on this site that pay Marner 11... He may not be worth 11, but I'm thinking the two side won't be able to come together on an agreement that is less than 11M and for a term that keeps him longer than the Matthews contract.

I think having one guy scratched (21 roster spots) is okay. As long as they've got guys on two-ways, they have the ability to call-up and send down as they need throughout the season. Only thing I'm not certain of is if there is a limit to how many call-ups they're allowed in a season.

Anything under 11m would be great, but I'm using 11 as a worst-case scenario. The fact that this negotiation is taking so long, makes me think Marner is looking for more than 11. I don't really understand how term changes things (I honestly don't get it, please explain...) If he wants more than 11, I say he keeps his couch warm this year.

That's fair. Who do you think is the 6th D then? Holl isn't in Babcocks good books... Harpur?

Nevermind 6th, who will be the 5th d-man with Dermott out to the start the season. I have a really terrible suspicion that will be left to Marincin-Holl, which would be an accident waiting to happen. Ideally, Borgmann has a great camp and starts in place of Dermott. You'd like to see Dermott move over to the right and stick with Borgmann, once Travis is healthy. I'd like to see the Leafs recruit Deryk Engelland for a 1 year contract at just over $1 million or acquire Scott Mayfield from NYI. I think the Leafs could package Bracco and a pick to the Islanders for him.
