Description

I don’t think that the islanders will offer sheet Marner, nor should they for 4 first round picks. I don’t think Toronto will go over 10 Million to sign him. If Lou is looking to go that route, this is what I would would happen. The isles will definitely make enough space, but it does create problems for next year.

They have just under 3.7m right now. Putting down Horton clears another 5.3 So That is 9m cleared, they are holding 8 defenseman and 13 forwards, they would have to send 3 down to clear 2.7m and they'd have 11.7. Which incidentally is just more than Panarin got. I think any team offers 11.5 plus, it won't be matched. The compensation is 4 first round picks, which they could turn into one or more of:
Kyle Connor
Patrick Laine
Tyler Toffoli
Kase
Rakell
Athanasiou
Faulk/Hamilton/Pesce
Kreider
Drouin

and that's just to name a few they can go after with the draft capital.

Personally, I would think they would be in a better position with one of the listed offenseman and Faulk/Hamilton/Pesce than just Marner. Ideally Toronto should go after people with term left like Kase/Rakell/Drouin/Hamilton than pending UFAs
