9.5 seems high, I'm betting the number will be 7.5 for 5 or 6 years

The Skinner contract made Tkachuk a lot of money. If it was $7.5m I think it would have been done by now.

There is a massive difference between a UFA and RFA, he will probably get 7.75 -8.25

There is and there is also a difference in Skinner and Tkachuk. Eichel got $10x8 and that was 2 years ago when value were lower. I would imagine Tkachuck would be just behind that.

I think as other top RFAs sign, things will look different. The Sabres paid for a number 1 overall pick and locked him up long term, they also think they have a strong 30+ goal scorer in Skinner, as well they just traded for him so they wanted to make sure to keep him.

Tkachuk will probably sign for less term and less money since hes only 21. The range of 7.5-8.5 million AAV for 5 or 6 years is probably the likely scenario. If it goes to 9 mill or higher AAV, I think you're right that it will be for 8 years.

$9.5M is probably the number for an 8-year deal.

$8M is probably the low end number for a 5-year deal.

Anything less will be a job well done by Treliving.

-------------

Flames fans would be very happy with two 2nd rounders for 1 year of Brodie. If there is a pre-negotiated extension in place for him, then I could see a team paying two 2nds. Otherwise, a 2nd and a prospect, or a 2nd and a 3rd are likely the ballpark.

I think the flames would be pushing for an 8 year deal. They would basically get his prime years and in 3-4 years it will be a huge value for him.

I think him being at such a high cap hit will put the team in a bind though. More likely that he takes less money and term
