Not sure why that's garbage. You can say that Detroit doesn't need a left-handed defenseman, but a single 2nd round pick is less than Martinez's trade value.

It is garbage because you have an old overpaid d man that doesn't suppress shots or generate offense. a 2nd is massive overpayment for a replacement level player.

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. He's a solid 2nd pairing defenseman on a team-friendly contract. He also has two Stanley Cups and two game-seven OT series clinching goals in his career, one of which won the Kings their 2nd Stanley Cup. Nothing about him is "replacement level". He is also one of the best shot blockers and penalty killers in the NHL.

If traded this season, he will return a 2nd round pick and a b-level prospect. If next season, probably only a 2nd round pick.

Doesn't suppress shots? Maybe it's time for you to do some research before spouting off. Martinez is one of the quality shot-blocking defensemen in the NHL, year-in and year-out. He's got 2nd PP experience and would easily play at that position in Detroit because they have close to zero depth there. He's a little older yes, but he's only got 2 more years on a very team-friendly $4mil deal not anywhere NEAR overpaid. Any team would easily get what they're paying for with Martinez in shot-blocking, experience, and mentorship.

Hold on. Does trading for him include a time machine?

He's younger than half the defensemen on the Red Wings' roster. I'd take him over Mike Green.

Again, that's fine. You can argue that the Red Wings have no need for him or that he doesn't fit in their rebuild plans.

You cannot argue, however, that Martinez isn't worth a 2nd round pick to someone.

Then I stick with my original assessment that you don't know what you're talking about.

Yeah clearly the soon to be 32 year old d man with a 4m cap hit that hasn't posted a positive WAR60 since 14-15 is worth a 2nd lol

I reserve the right to say "I told you so" when he gets that and more in return.

Okay and it will be a terrible trade for that GM. He is not worth a 2nd but all GMs are idiots.
