Really? Edler, Brown, Maata all come off the cap next season ($13 mil) and you'll <strong><em>still </em></strong>have Kaliyev, Byfield, Kupari, ****emo, Madden and Akil Thomas in the pipeline...

Adding Reinhart via Skinner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>First off. no way Reinhart signs that. Two, no way that Skinner contract is coming to the Kings (they will have their hands full with Doughty in a few years). Three, losing Vilardi and the 8th overall, and the Kings still don't have a top LD and limited cap space for the coming year. Sorry, but these moves would get Blake fired.</div></div>
I figured my guess at a new Reinhart contract would be my biggest flaw. The loss of #8 is a pick swap for #1, so Owen Power would be your future LD (after his season at Michigan). And the upgrades at forward without losing Byfield or Turcotte would make us a playoff team in a weak division as long as the kids continue to develop. Don't think you fire he GM that returns you to the playoffs without mortgaging the future

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>Doughty was frustrated he also claimed the team was fine defensively even though they were 11th worst and 9th worst in goals against and shots against per game. This was a prove it year to see what prospects can make the jump to the NHL: Andersen, Bjornfot, JAD, Moore, and Anderssen graduated, while Grundstrom, Luff, Wagner, Strand, and Clauge are still on the bubble. He knew what a rebuild was, the team may make a big swing but it will likely be for a top-6 winger or a vet d-man for a no more than 2 years until some more of these prospects are ready.</div></div>
When 16 of your 56 games (28.5%) are against Colorado and Vegas - the two best teams in the league according to the sports books - those goals/shots against are going to be skewed, no? They were 3-13 against those 2 teams and -27 goal differential.

I agree that's the current narrative, but do you think real GMs see it this way? Eichel IS what we hope Byfield WILL become. I am erroring on the side of the known commodity...

I'd like to remain patient as well, but Doughty said what others (i.e. Kopitar) are likely thinking, that the team needs help now...

I ran multiple ideas (e.g. swap out Vilardi for Byfield) but I couldn't see you'd get a #2 overall pick who was trending up before last season for less than #2 Byfield.

If you’re paying Lewis $2 million and Clifford $1.6 million to play on the 4th line, I would agree that Kempe and Iafallo will land in the $2-$3 mill range. Also I believe that the qualifying offer for all your RFAs needs to 110% of their previous contract. You’ll need to dump another big contract to make it work...

Hagelin will likely get a 3rd and Thompson a 4th from contenders looking to shore up their PK and bottom 6. Kings aren't moving Lewis for anything short of a massive overpay by someone, certainly not as a throw in for 2 fourth rounders. I think Lewis likely retires a King...
Islanders are ahead on schedule on a rebuild, not a contender (yet). I can't imagine Kovalchuk waiving his his NTC for any team short of a cup contender. Scherbak is going to KHL
No way Kings trade with Calgary, especially a promising young goalie (remember Martin Jones). Plus Blake loves Clifford and Forbort is a first round pick eating top line minutes on an affordable contract.
I'm surprised no QUICK trade with all of the house cleaning...

Let the kids LUGHES get it oh and trading QUICK
How about Dobson and 2nd? Quick's contract is actually decent compared to other starters of his quality. Assuming he stays healthy for the length of the contract, and is fired up because of the trade, you could have a bargain if he gets hot and delivers some deep conference runs. That is a big "if" but it's always a calculated risk. Other HOF goalies are playing into their late 30s...

Cool experiment. The trades that hurt in retrospect are Richards (who plays a huge role in the 2012-2014 run) and Lucic, which is probably going to hurt even worse down the road. Btw, doesn't Miller play RHD? Considering the trouble they've had filling that slot AND the current bad idea of bringing back Voynov, he looms as an even greater loss...

Kind of obvious here, but why would the offensively starved Kings trade away a 30 goal scorer to add defense when they just won the Jennings trophy?
