I would rather have Ceci on my team than Marner. Having good defensemen is what matters most.

As for your other question, Leafs management see more potential in Ceci than those other guys. They think that with the skills coaches the Leafs employ, plus the fact its his last RFA contract year, means he'll put in his best year yet.

I'm skeptical, but the Leafs D is better than last year IMO, so that's all that matters.

To answer you question, the Leaf need someone to play RHD for a year. The worse reason "let the kids play". Don't know of any Marlies Dmen that are NHL ready in October

I think the Leafs are quite happy with having Ceci for a year and then getting his 4.5m cap space available next summer. Leafs can't trade Ceci for a better Dman so just keep him.
