thats a lot of value to give up for Players that arent even needed on the Avs. No need for Nuge who is only signed for 2 years bc you have Kadri, and Larsson isnt even an upgrade over Johnson yet you have him playing top pair with Girard?

I wouldnt give up Newhook who is going to be a stud on the Avs with his skill set. This is a very foolish trade for the Avs.

I am actually a huge fan of both teams so I have mixed feelings. The Oilers fan in me says yes but the Avs fan in me says no.

As an oiler fan, yeah the Avs definitely wouldn't need to pay that much.

Nuge would be ideal on the top line. He can take face-offs for Mack, and dish the puck off. That would allow Landeskog to drop down to the 2nd line, with Kadri and Compher, a pesty/agitator line that can also put up points.

Larsson is better suited to play on Girard's side than Johnson, given style of play. Larsson is also younger and Johnson's durability worries me (4 more years).

The Avs window to win is now, so sacrifice some of the future for the present.

you are vastly vastly vastly over paying for complimentary players and I think you are over rating Nuges ability and I think you have Larsson confused, and he was not a very good Dman last year, even a decline EJ was better than Larsson who was constantly being caught out position having his ankles broken.

Let's assume for the moment that Larsson for Johnson is kind of a wash. That's three first-round picks for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Even if you now assume that Larsson is an improvement over Johnson, isn't that still an awfully high price to pay? And now that you've traded your first AND your second this year, what happens if somebody you really like comes on the market at the trade deadline?

A 69 point player (Nuge) isn't a complimentary player, he is a factor/corner piece. As for Larsson, everyone was bad on the Oilers last year. Larsson's first two years with Edmonton are much better and more indicative of his play.

I wouldn't really call it three first round picks. Yes, Newhook is the prize for Edmonton in the trade, however Jost is bordering on bust (30-40 point player tops), and the 1st would be a late one, as the Avs should go deep in the playoffs.

The cranky old curmudgeon says Why doesn't anyone on CapFriendly know how to spell "complementary"?

A guy with 2 years left on his contract and who benefited from bloated point production being on McDavid wing isn’t a core player, that’s a rental
