Imdin’t See why the islanders want to pay Mitch 12.5m while giving up a player who may prove to be his equal making less than 1m.

They're the same age and Marner outscored him by like 70%, you think Barazal makes up that different this year?

Hmmm... Barzal put up 147 points in his first two nhl seasons... how many did marner put up?

Marner was also playing alongside Tavares and on a PP with guys like Matthews and Reilly. Put Barzal in that situation and id be willing to bet money the point totals are identical.

Exactly. It is interesting that Barzal had a drop in points once he wasn't playing with Tavares and Marner had a big jump when he was. Just another reason why Marner is not worth over $11m a season

But a perfect example of why Barzal and marner May be comparable. Personally I think marners better. But hey I’m a leafs fan.

We can look at just EV where Marner was at 2.9 P/60 and Barzal was 1.7

Barzal didn't play with Tavares, he was the 2nd line C behind Tavares, so losing Tavares had minimal to no bearing on Barzals point drop. Barzals point drop, like all Islanders last year, was because of the system Trotz employees... it's a D first system that the entire team bought into. As a result the team went from last to first in defense and goaltending and took a hit offensively.

Now, I'm not saying losing Tavares didn't affect the overall offense, but lets not pretend he was the ONLY reason the offense was down last year.

And I'll say this again... go look at Tavares numbers on the Islanders when he wasn't playing with above average wingers, he was more of a 60-70 point player and only eclipsed 80 pionts when playing with above average wingers, so the argument can be made that Marner elevated Tavares just as much as, if not more than, Tavares elevated Marner.
