No, you're right, he's not the problem... his contract is. You guys had Matthews and Kadri as your 1C and 2C to go along with Hyman, Johnsson, Marner, Nylander and Kapanen on the wings. Your biggest need was defense and you knew Matthews, Nylander and Marner were all due new contracts... that 11m spent on Tavares would have gone a long way to addressing other needs that were more important.

Again, not saying, going after someone of Tavares caliber is a bad move... just saying it was the wrong move for Toronto and now they are paying the price.

Also, by your last statement in your post, I'm assuming your implying that Marner is the problem because he won't sign for what the Leafs dictate he is worth? Well, why should he? He out produced both Matthews and Tavares last year... why shouldn't he be paid like them?
