** DISCLAIMER ** I don't think this will happen at all. There was a rumour on nhltraderumors website "that a trade could materialize with the Detroit Red Wings". I don't believe Tampa Bay will let Point go. He is a superstar center that scored 41 goals and 51 assists for 92 points in 79 games last season. This is exploring that rumour.

Point is a superstar. A real difference-maker that Detroit highly covets. He also happens to play center. A perfect 1-2 punch of Larkin and Point, and in a year or two Veleno as the perfect two-way 3rd line center. Detroit will have solidified the middle for years to come. Point would be the perfect player to play with Zadina. I believe both Blashill and Holland have stated that Zadina plays better with another skilled player. Some guys need a player that they can play off of and I think Point is that player Zadina needs. In order to do that Detroit has to include 30 goal scoring speedster Athanasiou, veteran defenceman Mike Green, as well as a slew of draft picks, which includes a 1st round pick in 2021. Detroit also receives Tampa Bay's 2nd round pick in 2020. Tampa Bay may also demand another prospect, someone like McIsaac or Lindstrom. I believe that the compensation for Point on a 9.5m avg x 7-year contract would be two 1st round picks, a 2nd round pick, and a 3rd round pick if he were to be offer sheeted.

After making that trade I found that the right-hand side of the team was a bit weak. I decided to also explore the rumours of a Gusev trade, which I felt would fill the hole. Detroit has to give up Taro Hirose who had a really good 10 game 7 point stint to end the season with Detroit. He also followed that up with a great Development camp. He is ready to play in the NHL now. I've also included a 2nd round pick as compensation.

Detroit keeps a pick in the first 3 rounds of the 2020 draft, including their own which may be in the top 10. The defense is still fairly weak, but Detroit has a slew of promising young prospects in Seider, Cholowski, McIsaac, and Lindstrom, as well as new additions this year in 2nd round pick Tuomisto and 3rd round pick Johansson. In this scenario, Kronwall signs for another year. However, I can see either Bower or Kaski in that position as well. Darkhorse would be Sieder who forces his way onto the team.

They are not trading him. He’s not signing an offer sheet, he wants to be in Tampa.

As the disclaimer says I don't think this would actually happen. The hypothetical is that Point can't come to an agreement with Tamp Bay and they have to deal him. So what would that trade look like? What would Detroit have to give Tampa Bay?
