ngl Lucic might actually do well with you guys. and after seeing the retention + added pick, trade should be viewed equal. don't think Holland fleeced the flames at all after seeing the final trade details.

Also now every player on that roster will stand a bit taller. Bennett, Tkachuk, and Lucic all on one team can be something in the playoffs.

Two conditions have to be met for Oilers to send 3rd round pick to Calgary - James Neal has to record at least 21 goals and Lucic scores at least 10 fewer goals than Neal.

ok i guess subtract the 3rd rounder, but Neal at 6.5K and Lucic's NMC probably got re-worked so that he could get exposed in the expansion draft is still a good deal. It's not as much of a fleecing as people make it out to be. Yes, Neal has the higher upside to bounce back, but we said the same thing the first year Lucic regressed. If anything it might be a small tip to the Oilers but if the pick conditions are met, then I'd view it as competely equal.

Anytime we can get rid of a NTC player that is on a long term contract and expansion draft is coming up, is a good day. Oilers just win the trade outright by not giving up a first and getting a little something back, Neils buyout is awesome as well

I don't think he's keeping his NMC though. Players on NTCs are available to be selected in the expansion draft I believe. I thought there was talk re-working his NMC? I might be wrong on that.

Yah but why would an expansion team want him, what does it matter, the contract is bad as well

cap hit is bad, the actual cash isn't. any floor team needing leadership might see some value. if the flames retained up to 50%, he'd bet at 2.6M. He's owed 16m in real money over the next four seasons. Fact is, every day goes by, the contract is easier to move.

It doesnt matter the year Neal had, it was bad yes, but this trade sets us back!!! We need to get quicker and score more, this trade makes us worse in both categories! Look to ML to get moved still!

Hence the 3rd rounder is the best asset title... by the way Neal will score 0 with McDavid cause he can't keep up. Neal will be exiting his zone as McDavid shoots

This is all pretty funny. Neal is slow and will get slower. I give the edge to CGY!!!

Actually, nevermind.
I remember around the time of the Vegas expansion draft Ottawa tried to put Phaneuf on the unprotected list but because he had a NTC, they needed his permission and Phaneuf blocked that.

Instead the Sens were forced to unprotect Methot (they did not want to lose him because he was such a D partner for Karlsson) and of course Vegas took Methot and later traded him to Dallas.

There is however a way out. NMC's don't protect against buyouts so we buyout Lucic and free up an expansion protection. Year 1 we about 2 mil then Year 2 we don't save. The years after that only cost about 800k so it isn't a big deal
