Description
Using https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hkm-5QqNEQKULy4Bp8VTQHJoQlcehSgx1lZKMxQ4Uog/edit?usp=drivesdk (a sheet that generates how many points a team will get based off of WAR and probably some other stats) this is the best somewhat realistic lineup i could find (I didn't test every possible lineup bc it's painfully slow lol) and this team only has 100 points (and is over the cap) but the most likely lineup as of now
Top 9 the same
Tanev-Blueger-Hornqvist

Top 4 the same
JJ-Guddy
(If you move either of those two up it just gets worse)
Only has 91 or 94 points I forget, but that point total probably doesn't make the playoffs much less compete for a cup (also the hey scratches are ordered from best to worst at each position)

Now I know that's only one metric, but it does show how bad of a spot this team is currently in bc they'll probably have to sell of someone to get under the cap making their point projection even lower

Hopefully, but we'd still probably have to give up Rust ZAR or Simon to make it happen weakening the team

when you put 4000000000000000000 players on a roster to make a team look "over the cap"

Bury JJ and Guddy if you want, takes only 2.2 mil off the cap, still 300k over, then you have basically the cheapest possible 23 man roster for PIT

they won't bury Gudbranson. DeSmith isn't losing much. He's good enough to lose by 1.
JJ will only be buried till they trade him anyway. Detroit will come knocking by mid season.

Ok first the cap wasn't the main goal of this post, second we'd still have to pay whoever takes JJ, and it won't be DET, they have enough terrible contracts, and too many defensemen already, third if we do lose Desmith (to waivers or trade, not what I'm trying to predict in this post) we still need a backup, Jarry, which saves us 500k, so combine that with the 1.1 we lose if we bury JJ to start the season (which we probably won't bc GMJR need GRIT) and the 1.1 from burying someone else which you're saying won't happen so we have to send down Trotman, only saving us 700k, and 700k+1.1mil+500k still leaves us 100k over, and that's assuming we sign MP to the extremely cheap deal of 1.7x2, and fourth, wtf do you mean by DeSmith isn't losing much. He's good enough to lose by 1.

it's 23 people on a roster not 500000000000000000000000

you are over here sending down people who are never going to be on the roster with a bogus inflated cap.

It fits just fine.
And detroit doesn't have too many Defense men. They are the most injury prone old as hell blue line in the league. They will be begging teams for defense by mid year.

I currently have 25 people on roster, you can count them, it's how many are there, if you send down two (25-2=23) you can get at most a cap relief of 2.2 mil, but you said (probably correctly) that Guddy isn't going to get sent down, so I can't imagine you thinking Hornqvist or Tanev will get sent down, so that leaves us with Ruhwedel Trotman Riikola or Adam Johnson to get sent down, each of them makes 700k, so you have JJ's 1.1 mil getting cleared, plus 700k for any of those guys, currently my the 25 guys i see having a shot at making the NHL are 2.5 mil over, 2.5-0.7-1.1=0.6, still over the cap, and if you take the 500k difference between Jarry and Desmith (0.6-0.5=0.1) they're still roughly 100k over...

And DET has Green DDK Cholowski Nemeth Ericsson Kaski Daley Hronek and Bowey fighting for NHL roster spots, along with Hicketts Laschoff Seider McIlrath Lindstrom Saarijarvi and McIsaac in the AHL, along with the 2 that don't make the NHL, that's too many

none of this is rocket science, if you can't do the math, play with an AGM and look at the numbers.

and Detroit blue line is awful and old. Half the guys you listed there will be injured and out by mid season, suck, or aren't ready to play in the NHL.
On top of it you listed every RHD on the team.
They will be looking for defensive help by mid year when the made of glass blue line is limping into the locker room injured.

Kaski is very well thought of out of Liiga (young and not injury prone) Bowey Cholowski Hronek aren't really injury prone from what I know, plus it's not like JJ is an upgrade over Seider Laschoff or even McIsaac or Saarijarvi, who aren't injury prone and are fighting to get a shot to be the first call up, and I literally did the math for you to show that unless we trade/send down someone that makes more than 700k along with JJ, and we trade/lose Desmith for 0 cap coming back we are still 100k over the cap.
