Not really comparable to Meier since Meier signed a 4 year deal to take him right to UFA, in this scenario Tkachuk would still be a flames RFA at the end which gives more value to the Flames and less flexibility to Tkachuk. Further, Tkachuk's raw points stats (77 points to Meier's 66) and overall game (much more of a gamebreaker with his skill plus agitation) mean he will get more on a similar deal. I don't really see Meier as a comparable, other than saying Tkachuk should get at least a million more on a 4 year deal.

I see 4 years, 7,250,000 as the low end. That would be an amazing contract imo.

Meier is RFA at the end of his deal.

Ah yes, sorry, I lazily just counted the years and determined he'd be 27 after the 4th year of the deal but no, he will indeed be 26 on July 1st. In any case, my arguments about a Tkachuk 4 year deal in comparison to Meier still remain the same.

Meier is RFA at end of deal but his salary in the last year is 10 m so I believe the team has to qualify him above that, basically set himself up for a big payday on next contract even if still RFA for one more season.
Tkachuk could structure a similar deal. I think he gets paid more than Meier though.

He's likely not looking for a two year deal. Given his comments on Mathews' deal I'm guessing he's looking for a five year term at UFA priced dollars (the ask is probably in the neighborhood of Aho's 5 x $8.454M). The only other way to do a Meir style deal would be the three year term with a large salary number in the final year (perhaps a team ask of something like 5.625, 5.625, 9 for an AAV of $6.75M aka Gio & Johnny cap).
