So two bottom 6 forwards, an over the hill D man and a 1st for a number 2 dman on a great contract and a guy who could be a 1st line center on about 10 NHL teams? For the Oilers, the only thing attractive is the 1st, but the Avs are indeed going to be good, so that will be a mid to late first. This trade would seal McDavid wanting to leave EDM , so EDM would never risk it. They have like a 2 year window to convince McD he can win in EDM. Won't be trading this supporting cast away for parts.

There's also no reason whatsoever for the Avs to make an offer like this, nor does it make any sense lineup-wise. They have one of the, if not the best contract for a 2C in the league and their D lineup is stacked as is. Add in Byram, and there's genuinely no reason to do this.

Personally I wouldnt do any of these trades or UFA signings, maybe maroon for 1 year but I'm sure he takes a longer contract this offseason
