Just going to point out that the deadline for a NYR buyout is 5pm, but that doesn't mean news would for sure become public by then.

Let's put it this way, if they don't buy anybody out today, NYR would need to clear out $8-10M without retaining any salary (in future trades) in order to re-sign Lemieux and DeAngelo.

You really think teams are going to line up to give them ELC players now that their post-5:00 PM leverage is completely gone?

that's a buyout deadline because Buchnevich filed for arbitration. It's not some random deadline to make a trade.

Probably not, but most people expected more for Gusev as well.

This idea is the same, as it's more beneficial to move extra pieces who aren't in the long term plans before they handcuff you.
If NYR doesn't buy anyone out, other teams will have the upper-hand in negotiations.

Clarified: the window is actually later than 5:00PM EST.

Have just learned that because Buchnevich contract was not filed until Saturday, NYR buyout window does not open until 12:01 AM...Sorry for previous confusion.
