Couple of things:
1. There are two options for protection... 7 forwards, 3 defensemen, and 1 goalie, or 8 skaters and one goalie. The Pens are almost certainly going to choose the first option as I don't see any defensemen beyond Letang, Maata, and Dumo that need protect, and then Pens can then protect 10 skaters rather than 8.
2. RFA status has nothing to do with the draft. The ONLY players that are exempt are ones that have two years or less of professional experience (including AHL). Sprong is a good example. He will only have one year under his belt. Other good examples are Dominik Simon and Jake Guentzel.
Murray, Sheary, Dumoulin, Pouliot, Rust, Wilson, and Kuhnhackl are ALL eligible to be taken.
